It was reported late last week that Bovada, the Bodog arm that accepts US players, began blocking all new signups from Maryland, New York, Utah and Washington.
Now rumblings are surfacing that no players- both new and existing- from Maryland will be allowed to play. As of now,
It has yet to be determined “why” players from these four US states are no longer allowed to sign up, but a few factors could be the reason. Back in February, Bodog founder Calvin Ayre was indicted in– you guessed it– Maryland. The other three states either have specific laws prohibiting online gambling or are not particularly interested in having it legalized there.
Other sources believe that it’s difficult to locate a payment processor to deposit money into the accounts of residents from these states.
Still, while no Maryland residents are allowed to play, only new signups from New York, Utah and Washington will be banned. Existing players can continue to play– for now.
More updates to come.
