UK iGaming Faces POCT
UK bookmakers are dreading the dawn of 2015 because it’s bringing a massive new point-of-consumption tax on sports betting. The new tax is aimed at shutting down loopholes that allowed operators with offshore servers to pay less than those operators with servers in the UK.
As its title indicates, the POTC charges operators on bets in the country where they are placed. That 15% hit has companies like William Hill telling shareholders that 2015 might not be such a hot year for profits.
