New Jersey Loses Sports Betting Battle
Despite the support of the entire gambling industry, New Jersey lost its righteous battle to end the sports betting ban in America.
A Federal judge bought the NFL’s argument that legal, regulated sports betting represented an immediate threat to professional sports and blocked the will of the people of New Jersey. Jersey politicians have said they’ll continue the fight, but they don’t have a lot of good options.
For now, it looks like the will of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has more pull than New Jersey voters (who overwhelmingly supported legalization).
Goodell and his ilk haven’t really explained how sports betting hurts their brand more than overpriced tickets; not paying college athletes; or mixed messages on domestic violence, but that’s another story.
