BetMGM is partnering with the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team in a deal content and advertising deal that’s become de rigueur for professional sports teams in the United States. The very existence of the deal once again highlights the abrupt 180 that the MLB, and other sports leagues, have done regarding their attitudes towards regulated sports betting.
Under the terms of the deal, BetMGM will get the opportunity to plaster its logo across the team’s PNC Park, including a prime location behind home plate. The prominent sportsbook will also partner with the team on a slew of yet-undetermined content and promotions projects.
In a statement to the news media, BetMGM’s Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost touted the deal as a major victory for his company saying, “BetMGM has seen tremendous success in Pennsylvania since launching in December 2020. Growing our presence across the state, in partnership with the Pirates, is a top priority and we look forward to providing Pittsburgh’s passionate sports fans unique promotions and benefits only available on BetMGM.”
David Burke, Pirates Executive Vice President of Sales and Business Development expressed a sentiment that would have been considered blasphemous from any pro sports executive ten years ago saying, “Our partnership with BetMGM is one that we are extremely proud to announce. We are incredibly excited to partner with such a respected and innovative brand. It allows us the opportunity to provide a unique platform for our fans to engage with Pirates baseball like never before.”
Pennsylvania has ranked among the top couple of US gambling markets for an extended period and has embraced regulated sports betting in a significant manner.
