Amidst the fun of dodging stampeding elephants, chasing away cheetahs, and stretching one bowl of grain to feed an entire family for a week, Kenya residents can now gamble online thanks to BetKenya.com; an online gaming portal developed by Amaya Gaming Group. Yes! Kenya real estate—look for the boom!
A First for Kenya
BetKenya is Kenya’s first legal online gaming website and offers dozens of gaming options including slots, table games, poker and more. The site is at the center of Amaya Gaming Group’s contract with the Betting Control and Licensing Board of Kenya (BCLB) to operate online gaming in the country.
President and CEO of Amaya David Baazov states, “BetKenya will provide the Kenyan government with a new source of revenue and a new capability to oversee online gaming activities in the country, while still allowing its residents to enjoy a world-class gaming experience.”
Amaya now operates three online gaming platforms in Kenya, having launched an SMS lottery and the Kwachu 6/48 Lottery; a weekly jackpot that takes place every Saturday.
Regulating Kenya’s Gaming
Until now, much of the online gaming in Kenya was unregulated and, like most of the country, operating in the dark. As part of Amaya’s systems contract, the company will also set up a case study collecting data and evaluating the structure of Kenya’s online gaming.
Congratulations, Kenya, for getting on the global online gaming map!
