Phillipines Decriminalizes Online Gambling
Earlier this year a Phillipines’ court ruled that online gambling isn’t prohibited by law, because there’s no law prohibiting online gambling. It sounds more like a courtroom scene out of Alice in Wonderland, but it’s actually the culmination of a very complicated five-year court case.
The defendant in the case, Edgar Lim, fought the government for seizing equipment suspected of being used in online gambling. In their ruling a Filipino high court ruled that, in the absence of laws specifically prohibiting online gambling, Lim had committed no crime.
Local police authorities are none too pleased with the ruling and it’s very likely that laws specifically prohibiting Internet gambling will be introduced soon.
