According to a report in Argentina's El Cronista newspaper, a judge in Buenos Aires has ordered the nation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to shut down online casino Bwin.com.ar.
Judge Maria Fernanda Botana stated that the site's Austrian parent company had violated local laws by advertising extensively in the Argentine media without first obtaining the proper permission.
In addition, lead prosecutor Martin Lapadu said investigations may also be opened into two companies that had been providing payments solutions for the Argentine website.
"Once it is closed, the webpage will not be operational,’ said Lapadu.
"The page does not have the proper authorisation either of the National Lottery nor the Gambling Institute of the City."
He stated that the site, which is operated by Bwin Argentina SA, should ‘obtain the necessary authorisation to keep on operating and change its legal situation'.
