January 24, 2010 (CAP Newswire) — Veteran online gaming software provider Playtech recently confirmed reports of a long-suspected deal that it would provide online gambling software for the online casino and poker operations of big-name international video game company SegaGames Ltd.
This new license agreement will see Playtech develop a full suite of Internet-based casino and poker games through Sega’s SegaCasino.com and SegaPoker.com websites.
“Playtech, the industry leader in online gaming software provider, was the obvious choice for SegaGames Limited and we are very excited to have them as a partner,” read a statement from SegaGames.
The deal is exciting but does not appear to be exclusive; software provider CTXM has also announced that it will be providing software for the new Sega online gambling website(s).
Over at FlopTurnRivercom, Joseph Ewans is speculating that Playtech’s involvement may lead to a bigger return to the U.S. market for the company, which has been doing well in the non-American facing market for the past few years.
“For a long time, the most successful of the Euro-centric companies was Playtech – proprietors of the iPoker network,” Ewans writes. “Although it could not challenge the dominance of Full Tilt or PokerStars, it firmly established themselves as the most popular poker network not to allow American customers. That was until recently, when former powerhouse Party Poker managed to leapfrog iPoker, pushing them back into 4th.”
“With the UIGEA potentially on its last legs, many of the world’s biggest gaming brands are positioning themselves to return to the U.S. in a big way,” Ewans continues; in his opinion, many poker networks are positioning themselves for the eventual lifting of the ban. Playtech’s involvement with a popular brand and gaming favorite like Sega can certainly help its luck when the new market opens. Read Ewans’ article here.
