888 made social media history this week with the official launch of MAGIC888, the first real money Facebook casino app. The Facebook-only app is available to UK players over the age of 18 and features a mix of table and casino games.
Grabbing the first-to-market spot is major coup for 888 as the real-money social gaming space is expected to see significant growth in the near future.
In a press release, 888 COO, Itai Frieberger had this to say about his company’s latest venture:
This launch marks a significant extension in our real money social offering. The successful launch of BingoAppy has indicated the potential that social gaming offers, and we are delighted to expand our gaming portfolio with the launch of our MAGIC888 casino.
Magic888 is actually two apps in one. There’s a free version that’s similar to other social casinos on Facebook, and the real money side.
(Facebook users outside of the UK may find the page a bit confusing, as there are no clear links to the games. UK players can either click the, “Play Games,” button near the cover photo, or download the app from the Facebook App Center.)
Though MAGIC888 is the first real money Facebook casino, it’s expected to have plenty of company in the near future. Several other big name gaming companies are also expected to launch real money Facebook gambling apps this year.
On the poker front, Zynga is expected to launch a real money Facebook poker product of its own sometime this year, while PokerStars has a product called PokerStars.net that’s still in beta testing mode.
