The mystery surrounding the disappearance and apparent kidnapping of sportsbook owner 5Dimes Tony (aka William Sean Creighton) came to end this weekend when his body was found in Costa Rica. Creighton had been missing since early last week when his family reported his absence and his wrecked Porsche Cayenne was found by police.
Details regarding his likely kidnapping and apparent murder are few and far between and speculation abounds in the Costa Rican media and on online forums. Late last week, multiple media outlets reported that Creighton’s family had been contacted by his kidnapper, who demanded between $750,000 and $1 million in bitcoin to be deposited in a Cuban bank.
While multiple reports of the ransom demand, and a payout by Creighton’s wife, have been published – none have been confirmed by Costa Rican authorities or by 5Dimes officials.
So far, Costa Rican authorities have been tight-lipped regarding the disappearance, but evidence left behind definitely suggests a kidnapping. Creighton’s vehicle was found wrecked in a rural area and had apparently been run off the road. Costa Rica has also been subject to a recent wave of kidnappings of foreign nationals for ransom.
Diario Extra, a local tabloid that’s prone to sensational reporting, is reporting that Creighton was kidnapped by a group of four men. In their version, which has not been corroborated by law enforcement, Creighton was forced off the road by four men (two on motorcycles and two in a car). Once his vehicle went off the road, he was grabbed and forced into a taxi cab.
While confirmed facts are slim, the bottom line is that a 46-year-old man is dead and his family is still working with law enforcement in hopes of coming up with some answers.
