Google Penguin
CAP readers know all about the chaos that came along when Google rolled out their first Penguin update just over a year ago. Penguin came down hard on a bevy of linking practices that weren’t considered black hat at all.
The big problem with Penguin was that Penguin-proofing sites was incredibly time consuming and difficult. Not only that, webmasters couldn’t even figure out if they’d fixed it correctly until the next Penguin refresh.
After plenty of heartache, most web publishers have adapted to the new linking rules, but it’s clear that Google didn’t need to make getting to this point so difficult.
