Facebook Falls
Too big to fail is an expression that only applies to big banking companies and not to Internet giants. While there’s no questioning Facebook’s status as top dog in the social media world, there’s no guarantee that status is a lifetime term.
Think that sounds a little far-fetched? Just ask your friends on America Online or MySpace. (You can’t, because they’re not there anymore.)
Facebook has already shown an ability to fumble big projects, like their new Home phone/app suite, and the value of Facebook advertising is still being debated.
A Facebook fall isn’t the same as a Facebook death, however. MySpace is finding new life as a music site and even Friendster is alive and well as a social gaming site with a primarily Asian audience.
