I swear… there is such a big buzz around Pinterest, and honestly I haven’t gotten into it yet. It seems like it could be interesting as a means for inspiration.
Pretty cool article on Mashable regarding how Pinterest can inspire projects:
8 Ways Pinterest Is Inpsiring Your ProjectsIn essence, it appears that the goal of Pinterest is to create online & offline experiences to converge.
What are your thoughts on this latest trend? Does Pinterest live up to the hype?
February 23, 2012 at 2:18 pm #821827escapeMemberI’m finding it very sticky. Signed up a couple of days ago and already spending way too much time on there. If you’re a visual person you’ll love it, and the affiliate / traffic generating potential is all there too, at present. My concerns are how they will keep the service as it is, simple and elegant, with at present little monetization in place. There’s also the legal issues of grabbing content off other pages to make pinboards. Overall though, lots of potential to be both good to use and drive traffic, and negatively the potential to be ruined by marketers / go broke burning through venture funding / get caught up in legal issues.

2 Questions:
1) Am I missing out by not being on Pinterest? Or am I saving myself from being sucked in to a new obsession?
2) Do you think there could be opportunities for iGaming affiliates through Pinterest?
February 24, 2012 at 8:43 pm #821874angelbe1MemberHere’s an interesting little read on it How Pinterest Is Becoming the Next Big Thing in Social Media for Business | Entrepreneur.com, I actually think this is Entrepreneur’s 2nd article on it so there is definitely some buzz.
February 25, 2012 at 3:46 pm #821890AnonymousInactiveIsh.
When I first heard about twitter, way way before it was popular, I thought it was the dumbest thing in the world.
Reading the Mashable & Entrepreneur articles makes it seem like the new ‘in’ thing that you’ve got to ‘jump on now’. They also give you to tips as to how to approach it.
But, it sure does sound like a ‘time sucker’. What makes it tempting for me is that I am indeed a ‘visual’ person (according to VARK) and will probably spend way too much time there.
Maybe when I’m bored I’ll give it a try
(then I’ll probably get hooked)February 25, 2012 at 4:58 pm #821894AnonymousInactiveUntil a couple days ago I had never heard of them before … do they permit gambling related – affiliate businesses to post images?

Anytime there is something hot and new, you’ve got to at least ‘make an entrance’. And if there are any keyword user names you can snap up, you better do it quick.
2) Sure@arkyt 236503 wrote:

I haven’t seen any prohibition yet.
It does say
“Avoid Self Promotion”
“To add a Pinterest follow button to your website, go to our Goodies page. “Anyone Using It ?

Is it possible to add images with affiliate links? The place could be flooded with people wanting to sell products, services etc. I can’t find any terms, so maybe one should try it out.

There’s got to be a way to have images embedded with Affiliate Links… The purpose of the “networking” element of Pinterest is to get your name out there. I would however, suggest to mask your links to be on the safe side.
Honestly, I’m really curious to see if Pinterest could have any legs for our industry.
March 1, 2012 at 8:49 pm #822095AnonymousInactiveIn your profile you do get one link to your website, facebook and twitter pages.
Plus you can also include live links into the pins.
This article “http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/31608/Why-Social-Networks-Like-Pinterest-Will-Never-Be-Marketing-Free.aspx” talks about the marketing on pinterest. But the most valuable thing is a free ebook on the basics of marketing with this new “hot spot”. It helped me to understand the site much better than just browsing around.
My first foray into this area is a simple ‘like’ under my category
” Casinos I Want To Visit“(aren’t a I inventive)
The most revealing things were that you can include hastags and VIDEOS (youtube) !
They also suggest signing up with your twitter user name.
March 2, 2012 at 5:39 pm #822119bosshoggsMemberLook at you rmeeuwsen… You are totally diving in. I love it!
So… it’s been a couple of days… What has been the result so far?
March 2, 2012 at 8:26 pm #822121AnonymousInactiveHuh?
Well, there is a lot of weird stuff posted.
Posting youtube vidoes are easy.
Links can be stuck everywhere, but no one does it.
So far, no friends & no traffic (cry cry).Still too early
March 24, 2012 at 1:01 pm #822782AnonymousInactiveEven as the hype continues, I’ve lost interest in Pinterest.
They just modified their terms and conditions, here’s one of them from an email.
“Our original Terms stated that by posting content to Pinterest you grant Pinterest the right for to sell your content. Selling content was never our intention and we removed this from our updated Terms. “
Maybe they should run it through ‘word’ before they send it out.

Such a good point! Yes… these updated terms on Pinterest have caused quite a commotion. IMO, Pinterest grew a bit faster than they were prepared for…

Probably – But that is a problem I would like to have.
I also would hate it if I had too much money to count.
I suppose I could hire some trustworthy peon to do that for me.
