This person copied the craps rules and tips I wrote, as well as some text about slots and roulette and gambling in general.
I have written to him/her and asked to have it removed or I will contact Larry the Lawyer about it.

I would sugegst that you approach the casinos and poker rooms they promote, and ask them to do it on your behalf…

July 15, 2005 at 12:57 pm #668701AnonymousInactiveI don’t think you can copyright things like rules because they are fact.
Just an example, every poker site tells you to raise with aces, but what if the 1st guy to suggest that sued everyone for stealing his strategy.
A while ago, i was looking for a domain name, and went through about 10 of them until i found one available with the word “Poker” in it.
A few months later, some bozo e-mails me, saying that my domain name is infringing on their copyright, and tells me to remove my site.
WTF is that, i had never even heard of this guys site, and now he’s trying to convince me he owns the word “Poker”. Some people are ridiculous.
My advice, if you feel somebody is doing you wrong, physical pain, there is just no substitute.
July 15, 2005 at 1:25 pm #668705AnonymousInactiveRules are rules, but if you take them and spend hours on end working on a way to present them that everyone will understand and end up with a unique product, it falls under copy right.
Check it with a lawyer.
No, no one owns the word ace or poker. But the way in which something is presented may well be unique and therefor fall under copyright.
You can search the web for any craps rules the way I formulated them and only this guy will come up, because he copied and pasted them from my site to his.
If you want a unique way to present something, create it yourself.

Thanks Stephen, that is what I will do.
July 15, 2005 at 2:08 pm #668708AnonymousInactiveDominique is correct. It is not the information that is presented, it is the way it is presented. 99% of everything written today is the same information that can be found elsewhere, just presented in a different way. In addition, as soon as you write something it is copyrighted. It may be hard to prove in some cases, but you do not have to apply for a copyright in order to be protected.
July 15, 2005 at 2:17 pm #668710AnonymousInactiveHere is a thought….
Why aren’t these people copying ‘word for word’ from a book on Blackjack rules and strategy???
Because they would get the shit sued out of them!
It is not right on the internet either… The same plaguarism, copyrighting should apply. The only difference is that book publishers have the cash to sue and win.
What is NOT illegal is reading up on Blackjack, through several books, articles, other sites, etc and then forumlating in your own words how to present that in a user friendly format on your site. You just CANNOT and SHOULD NOT copy content. It’s just wrong. Who are these idiots anyway????
Let’s keep posting their names, addresses, phone numbers, and anything else we can get a hold of… Then, contact the programs they represent (even if they are different from the ones we represent)… Then, contact their web hosting company… Then, contact the ISP that the site is hosted on…
Until they stop.

This is a good idea. Perhaps the Professor could create a new forum just for this purpose.?

….It will never stop, but by outing people publically we will be fighting back, even if it be in a small way.

July 15, 2005 at 3:25 pm #668716AnonymousInactiveI dunno what it is but my take on the situation is that content stealing is proliferating at an alarming rate. It happened a bit years ago, you told the offender off and it was removed in a lot of cases.
There appears to be a new breed of affiliate on the scene and what I have read recently (and I know nowhere enough as yet) on blackhat SEO, these cases of content stealing are no longer the odd lazy bugger copy/pasting your page but an organised network I liken to a team of jewel thieves, cleaning up on everything, your content, keywords and even your players before you know it.
To a certain extent we allowed this to happen, along with the current retroactive problem and this is due to get worse IMHO for far to many reasons to list here.
Batten down the hatches, things are going to get rough and tough. To survive sometimes you got to fight, not bar brawl stuff but smart.
