YouTube Updates Gambling Content Policy

YouTube is cracking down on unregulated gambling sites with a policy update that was announced earlier this week. The massive, and ubiquitous, content site will definitely be a less friendly place for grey and black market sites when the update goes into effect and could have a big impact on affiliates and operators alike.

Under the terms of the new policy, content from “unapproved” gambling sites will no longer be allowed on the site. According to the update posted by YouTube, an “unapproved” gambling site is one that hasn’t been approved by YouTube. Gambling sites that won’t be approved include those that are unlicensed or Operating in grey market spaces. All gambling content must clear this approval huddle, including regulated and licensed sites.

YouTube is also cracking down on gambling sites that offer guaranteed wins saying, “Please note that content promising guaranteed returns may be removed regardless of whether the online gambling site or application has been approved by Google.”

From the sounds of the update, YouTube will also be tightening is standards for age-restricted gambling content. “This now includes URLs, links embedded in images or text, visual displays (incl. logos) or verbal references,” the update states.

A YouTube spokesperson summed up the new changes saying, We know this update may impact creators who focus on online gambling content like casino games and applications, but we believe these changes are a necessary step in protecting our community, especially younger viewers. YouTube is committed to supporting creators while ensuring a safe and responsible platform for everyone.”
