Betting and Gaming Council Backs Safer Gambling Week

The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) is marking its participation in the eighth annual Safer Gambling Week, a UK-focused responsible gambling campaign. Safer Gambling Week is part of an industry-wide effort to encourage players to use responsible gaming tools, and it’s proven extremely effective.

According to a recent BGC press release, last year’s Safer Gambling Week campaign resulted in a 54 percent increase in players using deposit limit tools and a 300 percent increase in players setting “reality checks”. Those eye-popping numbers were likely the result of the more than 50 million impressions Safer Gambling Week made on social platforms including Facebook and Instagram.

Louie French MP, Shadow Sport and Gambling Minister praised the effort saying, “This week marks the eight annual Safer Gambling Week. Here in the United Kingdom we have made good progress over those eight years in tackling problem gambling. Looking to other European countries, we have a comparatively low problem gambling rate, thanks to the work done by the BGC, BACTA and the Bingo Association – alongside the previous Conservative Government – all year round.”

“Safer Gambling Week is about showcasing safer gambling tools that exist in the regulated industry all year round to ensure that the millions of people who enjoy a regular flutter, continue to do so in a safe and responsible environment. Previous years have shown that this campaign leads to increased use of those popular safer gambling tools – like time-outs and deposit limits,” added Grainne Hurst, Chief Executive of the BGC.

Safer Gambling Week is also supported by BACTA and the Bingo Association.
