Poker legend Doyle Brunson’s 400,000+ Twitter followers received a rude surprise earlier this week when his feed began spewing out obscenities and pornographic images.
What followed was an ongoing Twitter war between the 82-year-old cowboy card player and the hacker who had hijacked his account.
The drama began unfolding when Brunson’s account began sending out messages that were definitely not in the poker master’s style. For example, at one point the feed beckoned:
HOPING ALL MY FOLLOWERS DIE IN A HOUSE FIRE
and
KILLING MYSELF SOON HAHA
Anyone who is at all familiar with Brunson immediately picked up on the fact that Brunson had clearly been hacked. What made things especially interesting was that at one point, Brunson and the hacker were simultaneously Tweeting from the same account.
The hacker, who Brunson had somehow figured out was called, Aiden, and was possibly from Georgia seemed to have faded when Brunson Tweeted:
I think I have my account back. Little creep from Ga hacked me#notgood
Unfortunately, for Brunson, Aiden was not done:
GUESS WHO’S BACK, BACK AGAIN
And that was that.
Brunson never really regained control of his account and, even worse, Aiden began deleting Brunson’s older Tweets.
By the end of the day on Tuesday, Brunson’s account had been suspended and there was no word on whether the deleted Tweets could be recovered or when Brunson might take back control of the account.
One question that’s nowhere near being answered is who would even want to hijack Brunson’s account? Brunson has less than 500,000 followers and is well respected in the poker world.
Whether this was the merely the work of misguided prankster or someone with a personal beef against Brunson remains to be seen.
