May 29, 2009 (CAP Newswire) — A Canadian company has developed technology that lets parents block their kids’ ability to access online gambling websites at home, the ChronicleHerald website is reporting.
The technology, believed to be the first of its kind in the world, can represent a useful tool in the road to legalizing online gambling in those countries that still restrict it. For example, one of the main arguments leveled against the online gaming industry in the U.S. is that it has s negative effect on young players who may not yet have learned how to play responsibly; this technology provides a response to that claim.
"BetStopper," developed by the Nova Scotia Gaming Corp., was created in response to a study that found that children gambled online “three times as often as adults” in Canada, according to the ChronicleHerald.
If the software catches on, expect to see it spring up in other markets, such as the U.S. and Europe. For more details, click here.
