America's World Poker Tour Enterprises Incorporated has announced that it is bringing the Spanish Championships back as part of the World Poker Tour (WPT) with an event in Barcelona next month.
Spanish casino operator Grup Peralada will host the Championships from May 21 to 27 at its Casino Barcelona and stated that the event is expected to draw a field of over 400 players including the new face of the WPT Poker Made Millionaire, professional player Antonio ‘the magician' Esfandiari.
"The WPT Spanish Championships was a great success last year," said Steve Lipscomb, President and Chief Executive Officer for the WPT.
"We are honoured to extend our partnership with Grup Peralada and return to Spain with a regional tour stop that Catalonians can call their own."
The official WPT site at WorldPokerTour.com is currently running weekly online satellites to give players the chance to earn their $7,875 buy-in for the main event alongside the $472 entry fee for as little as $9.45. Casino Barcelona will also hold its Super Satellite No Limit Hold'em buy-in for $346 with unlimited re-buys and add-ons on May 21 and 22 with the main event beginning on May 24 before concluding with the non-televised final table on May 27.
Last October's Spanish Championships saw 226 players from around the globe including professional players Gus Hansen, Erik Seidel, Isabelle Mercier, Juha Helppi and Christer Johansson put up $11,806 to compete. Austrian Markus Lehmann walked away with the Spanish Championships title along with the $845,281 top prize.
