There could be a few things causing your website to stall / hang for a few minutes but hanging for hours can only be a crappy shared hosting evironment.

If you want to check that none of your plugins are causing the problem, due to conflicts, then disable them all and then enable them one by one until the problem occurs again.

I use 24 plugins on one of my sites but then it is hosted on a decent VPS.

I just checked your site from Australia and it’s loading fine, not slow at all.

    Decent being the operative word!

I agree with ixian, disable all your plugins and see if that speeds things up. If not, try running a traceroute from say Domain White Pages – domainwhitepages.com on your domain.

Given the site loaded quickly for me, it could also be a bottleneck at your end (your ISP) and nothing to do with your hosting provider

Your hosting with HostGator. Straight up bad neighborhood.

Running a reverse IP lookup on your domain, your sharing an IP with with at least two p#rn sites, a couple of pharmaceuticals (eg Viagra) and who know’s what else is hosted on there.

Even if you sort out the loading issues, I suggest moving to decent hosting provider and obtain a dedicated IP for your site. Least your not sharing an IP with unknown sites.

Hostgator accepts p#rn sites and other dubious niches. The IP your site is using, is shared among all the sites who are hosted on this shared server.

GoDaddy are a great domain registrar but I wouldn’t host their myself. Given the casinos you promote, which some do not accept USA players, I’d be looking at hosting in the UK. It’s more suitable to your target EU audience. Other than than you could host in Germany.

I’d recommend https://www.vidahost.com/ known the guys for years. I used them for a couple UK sites years ago and stayed with them till I sold the sites in 2011. I’ve tried other places but these guys run a good business.

Even if your on shared hosting, I’d still pay for a dedicated IP. Just say you don’t want to share a generic IP with other sites, that should be a good enough reason to get one. That excuse works for me.

Sometimes just running a check on WebPagetest – Website Performance and Optimization Test can help. Click on the “waterfall” view after the test completes and analyze each file by process and transfer rates. Then install WordPress ? P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler) « WordPress Plugins and see which plugins are suspected of slowing down your site. Between the 2, all problems will be solved. I have made shared hosts go faster than dedicated servers by tweaking the info found in the waterfall view of webpagetest. Good luck!

Give this a go, least then you’ll know if your site is performing ok with speed or if the issue is with your ISP. http://www.webpagetest.org/

That URL also gives suggestions on how to improve page speed. It’s similar to Google but you can change tests from different nodes around the world and with different browsers too.

Agreed 24 is a bit over the top. The more you run, the larger you overhead will be. In addition, the more likely you’ll get plugin conflicts. Each (plugin update) can be like playing Russian Roulette.

A really cool WP plugin http://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/ scans your site (you activate the scan) and gives a details description of all the plugins your using and their load times etc etc.

I’d try and get your plugin quota down to at most 15. Though, the less you have the better :)

lol – The site I use 24 plugins on is Play at South African Online Casinos. Here in South Africa it’s page load time is pretty good so I’m not too concerned. 75% of my plugins are premium plugins and there is currently no conflict between any of them. I check my error log on my server regularly to make sure.

    Push the envelope! :)
