A lot of the articles and videos produced by Google and Matt Cutts give an insight into where Google are going.
If Article Marketing is something that you put a lot of effort into, then I’d suggest looking at other strategies as this isn’t going to be a sustainable SEO strategy.
Last week, Matt released this video in response to the question:
“Do you recommend article marketing as an SEO strategy and how are the backlinks treated when other websites republish the same article?”
March 16, 2011 at 1:18 am #815247slotfeverMemberThanks for posting this Carlo. I had heard he was saying stuff like this, but I hadn’t seen this video.
My advice to anyone who’s currently doing article marketing is to change your strategy and look for do-follow social bookmarking sites.
March 16, 2011 at 1:35 am #815249slotfeverMemberJust received a couple of PM requests for more info on do-follow bookmarking sites. Here’s an article on the topic:
Use social bookmarks to get more backlinks
Be careful, some of the do-follow bookmarking sites will tag you as no-folllow until you’re established.
March 17, 2011 at 12:14 am #815259cashforaccountMemberI was waiting until someone posted this video up. I do not Think Matt is saying it does not work and he wants it to stop. I know he is giving the idea of it not being too good to try and put people off if that is your main strategy.
I will say however in the future that article marketing will probably not work as well as it once did but still, like directories and reciprocal linking, it will still work just not as well.
March 17, 2011 at 12:20 am #815260slotfeverMemberI do think there are some quality article sites out there — Suite 101, Google Knol, even Hub Pages at times — and I think the article directories that provide quality content will be less impacted.
Still, when Matt Cutts says he doesn’t like it, it’s time to find a new strategy.
Can you imagine a world where Ezine Articles won’t show up on the first page of every search?
March 17, 2011 at 12:46 am #815261cashforaccountMemberOn another note, I can imagine that crappy articles that are just wrote for search engines will get effected and sites that don’t frankly give a **** what articles they republish. Someone who writes/pays for quality articles that don’t just spam article sites probably may get devalued but they will not get classed as spam and not count.
Spammers tend to want maximum links in the short amount of time and fluff articles do tend to get denied by directories. That means articles do get picked up as editorial links and not all links get excepted.

Writing or paying for articles to be written is not the same as “article marketing”.
When you take part in “article marketing” you do it for the purpose of syndicating the content and having people re-publish it with your link.
Writing or paying for articles is different. This is unique content.
I just wanted to draw the distinction between the two. As long as you create quality and relevant content you will be fine when the google bot comes to assimilate your content.

Yeah, I am aware of this. I was refering to “Writing or paying for articles” to syndicating the content
