A huge 98% of affiliates don’t even use the programs they sign up for, says a new report from MarketingPilgrim (from PubCon Austin), which lays the blame on affiliate managers — although there’s a lesson there for affiliates, too: Report: 98% of Affiliates “Do Nothing”

When I sign up for a program and end up doing nothing at all with them, there are good reasons for it.

    1. Inability to establish personal contact
    2. Inadequate promotional material
    3. Inadequate payment processing
    4. Player complaints soon after I put them up
    5. Failed short trial period

I have to say, in other verticals that I am, I probably fit the bill. Commission Junction (CJ) now pushes new programs and asks for publishers to “Accept Terms and Conditions” regularly. In my busy life, I’ve been known to accept these without really looking at them, and many of them are new programs. So, I am an affiliate for lots of these new programs, even though I have no intention on promoting them. Laziness on my part, but actions prompted by CJ.
