Guys, there will be a meeting of the various affiliate organizations in Vegas next month.
The purpose will be to discuss cooperation between all of them on some issues in the future.
For a long time (always) there has been the issue of programs that have paid for exposure on the various forums remaining on board after they go rogue.
Now, the legal situation with that is that these programs have contracts for the exposure.
Us affiliates insist that broken contracts are not ok, so this must extend to the programs too.
There is a solution to this, however. If all the aff message boards agree to add a clause to the contract that allows suspension of exposure under a certain set of conditions, if the affiliates from the various participating message boards present a valid case of misconduct on the part of the program.
This means, if the affiliate coop (just calling it that now, it has no name yet and doesn’t exist yet), votes to suspend the program’s exposure until a specific issue is fixed, all boards will do so in unison.
That will make a huge impact and will make negotiations for fixes much easier for all of us.
Of course this would not be done lightheartedly, the issue has to be substantial, such as breach of contract.
Now, what can be discussed in Vegas is the nature of such a clause. It can then be included in all new contracts. So the effect may not be seen for a while, while old contracts are allowed to expire.
I think that such a cooperation is way overdue and I have wanted this for a very long time. This seems to be a perfect time to push for it, since for once there are no feuds between message boards and it is possible to get everyone to one table for discussion. So I am personally pushing this heavily.
So, whaddaya think? Suggestions? Comments?

I am really looking forward to what will come out of this and if possible would like to dial in

I doubt it will be a quick and easy agreement, but I do thnk it can be done.
And yes, definition of rogue is the ever escaping issue…. but one has to have a stab at it for once.
I don’t expect this to happen all that often, but obvious theft of comissions like Grand Prive comes to mind immediately.
It will also make it lots easier for message boards to communicate with programs on this, since no message board stands alone to take the possible repercussions, but all stand together communally.

There are, however, also affiliate programs that really understand how to deal with affiliates! I hope it will eventually show to be the right strategy to work with affiliates as equal partners.
Dominique, I think your suggestion would help up us in the right direction. We want to support the programs that understand and treat affiliates as equal partners, and we want to get rid of programs that are top-driven with no clue about how this industry works. I think we can all think of quite a few examples of this.
