Big-time opposition like Harrah’s and the state’s own Casino Association have mobilized to stop Senator Raymond Lesniak’s online gambling bill from advancing in the New Jersey senate, and have already done some damage to the formerly fast-moving proposal. Read more here.
This was to be expected. Remember, big, important election coming up in November. NJ Congressmen, not unlike others, do not want to jeopardize their re-election bids, by ticking off their constituents. The brick-and-mortar gambling lobby is extremely powerful, and always carries a lot of weight around election time. Look for this to resurface in earnest in 2011.
Agree with poker dude, especially when considering these guys have big political muscles.
