If Barney Frank is so adamant about getting online gambling legalized, why can’t he, as the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, seem to bring it to the committee’s attention? A hearing scheduled for Friday has been postponed indefinitely. Read more here.
I just think that there aren’t enough Congress people who will jump behind on-line gambling now, with the mid-term elections just a short way off, and many of them fighting for their jobs. With all the mudslinging that has been going back-and-forth between parties, the last thing anyone wants to risk right now is to have the stigma of being pro-gambling attached to their name. As the national debt continues to widen, I would expect that taxing online gambling will become news again sometime in 2011.
