Is it contradictory for Kentucky to aggressively condemn Internet poker on the one hand, yet go forward with a plan to tax online horse betting on the other? Is it hypocrisy, or just politics as usual? (The likely rationale: Horse racing is much easier to tax, being based in the state, as opposed to online poker sites, which are located in other countries.) Read more here.

To answer your questions Nathan, it is BOTH hypocrisy and politics as usual. Although I don’t think that Kentucky’s Beshear ever played the morality card, his actions were clearly a ploy to drum up new tax revenues and preserve existing ones to the fullest extent. His argument have clearly always been hypocritical, and he’s trying to use state laws to tip things in his state’s favor.
