Microsoft’s new search engine is Bing. I’m not sure how much competition it will give google, but I’m very curious as to what type of results it will give in comparison to the major search engines.

June 4, 2009 at 1:50 pm #800430AnonymousInactiveThanks for the heads up! I moved this to the SEO section.
June 4, 2009 at 10:59 pm #800456AnonymousInactiveI had a chance to look this over – I like it. Clean look and feel , I like the descriptions on mouseover, the whole thing is really nice!
July 17, 2009 at 11:27 am #802237AnonymousInactiveJust checking out BING, and I see they have webmaster and SEO tools. Anyone check them out yet? Are they another arrow in the quiver we should all be using?

July 17, 2009 at 1:43 pm #802239AnonymousInactiveFor personal searches, I have switched completely to Bing. I find it much better than google.
Plus, 25% of my SE traffic now comes from Bing. So I assume it will be a player.
July 17, 2009 at 2:21 pm #802242AletheidesMemberBing will definitely be a player and you should ALWAYS look at any traffic source that is significant (more than 5%), but until users search habits change I do not see it being a threat to Google … just my opinion
July 17, 2009 at 2:41 pm #802244AnonymousInactiveIs there a difference in optimizing for Google and optimizing for Bing? If so, is it significant?
July 17, 2009 at 2:48 pm #802246AletheidesMemberYes, there is some difference from what I have seen … when we first looked at Bing right after SMX Advanced in June at a Microsoft sponsored event – we were able to determine that Bing relied heavily on anchor text and URI architecture … which made it easy to SPAM … I have seen a couple small shift in this in the last month, but it still appears to be working.
I would still optimize for Google first due to the engine’s market share, but definitely keep an eye on Bing – just as you would Yahoo
July 17, 2009 at 4:55 pm #802250innoneMemberMicrosoft seems very committed to undertake Google’s leadership with bing. I get some traffic from bing now, but not much yet. 25% would be nice.
