In the first moments after Sarah Palin was selected as John McCain’s running mate, an aide to Barack Obama fired off a highly critical e-mail to reporters denouncing the Republican candidate’s selection of a former small town mayor to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
It backfired. Since then, Barack Obama’ s campaign has employed a strict policy — don’t publicly go after Sarah Palin. At first, it was because they worried about appearing sexist and out-of-touch with middle America. Then when Palin was struggling in media interviews, Obama’s felt she was doing enough harm to herself.
But now, six days out from the election — as anonymous GOP aides attack Palin as a “diva” and “whack job” — Obama is up with a new ad designed to hit McCain on both the economy and his pick for vice president.
Considering the cautious approach Obama’s campaign has taken re Palin, one of two things (or both) might be going on here. Either they believe McCain’s attacks on Obama’s “spread the wealth” taxation remarks are working, and they need to hit back. Or their internal polls are showing — as several public polls have — that Palin is now a liability to the ticket.
The ad opens with a photo McCain with select quotes he’s made about his lack of expertise on economic issues, including one where the Arizona senator says he will rely on his vice president for advice.
The words “His Choice?” appear on the screen, then video of Palin, winking to a campaign audience.
Here’s the script: :roflmao:
John McCain in his own words
“I’m going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated.”
Wall Street Journal, 11/26/05“The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should.”
Boston Globe Political Intelligence, 12/18/07“I might have to rely on a vice president that I select” for expertise on economic issues.
GOP Debate, 11/28/07His choice? (Image of Palin, winking.)

how appropriate for a military man.
for those who have heard the word and wondered:
A petard was a small bomb used to blow up gates and walls when breaching fortifications. The term has a French origin and dates back to the XVI century
