Police say a campaign volunteer confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter B in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker.
At a news conference this afternoon, offiicals said they believe the woman’s injuries were self-inflicted.
Ashley Todd, 20, is now facing charges for filing a false report to police.
Todd, of Texas, initially told police that she was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield and that the suspect became enraged and started beating her after seeing her GOP sticker on her car.
Police investigating the alleged attack, however, began to notice some inconsistencies in her story and administered a polygraph test.
Authorities, however, declined to release the results of that test.
Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and “the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction.”
This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.
Todd told investigators that she didn’t remember what happened.
Police say they do not believe any other people were involved; and her friends believed the story about the attack.
According to police, investigators working on the interview process detected several inconsistencies in Todd’s story that differed from statements made in the original police report.
Pittsburgh Police Public Information Officer Diane Richard released a statement earlier today, saying: “Because of the inconsistencies in her statements, Ms. Todd was asked to submit to a polygraph examination which she agreed to do.”
No photos of Todd are being released by Pittsburgh Police at this time.

I called that one when i saw the B backwards yesterday, told my wife the idiot scrathed her own face in the mirror.
I thought that it was odd that her eyes were not red, but white as snow.
This is not the typical McPalin supporter and she makes them look bad and it’s sad. She needs help.

Mark my word some yoyo’s will check out rather then face the prospect of being made socialists with a terrorist president who is going to tax them to death. This was my fear when I first saw McPalin starting the hate-mongering.
I’m not going to get into this much, but the fact that she said her attacker was a big 6’4″ black man did not sit well with many and could have cause a huge ruckus so I’m thankful that the police did their job in this case because it could have gotten very ugly very fast.

They are talking about that basketball guy (Thomas) that OD’ed on sleeping pills (hope he is okay) and non relavant tax cut and 401 stuff today.
The best news clip I saw all week was when that Code Pink extremist tried to handcuff Carl Rove and make a citizens arrest for treason. That was great.
Speaking of her hate mongering, in her interview on NBC last night she couldn’t manage to actually include bombing an abortion clinic in her definition of terrorism. Palin did what a bunch of muslim extremists do, always prequalify the word civilian by adding “Innocent” before civilian. This clearly implies that some civilians aren’t innocent and therefore are ok to harm.
When these muslim facists say it they mean everyone but jews, americans and presumably christians and hindus. When Palin says it, it sounds like everyone but democrats who are innocent. I mean she’s talked about “innocent civilains” and “pro american parts of the country vs anti-american parts”, so what does she mean?
i say she’s promoting hate and excusing violence when used by her side.
