Hey all
Helene forwarded this site to me this morning… I found it pretty interesting to see which countries voted for which candidate…
Basically the site is designed to see what would happen if the whole world voted for the president of the USA.
http://www.iftheworldcouldvote.com
I found it particularly interesting that FYROM was the country with the most votes for McCain, and by a long shot… in fact they were the only country who had more than 50% of the votes for McCain…
NB: This post is definitely not designed to fuel any political fires here.. I’m in Oz, not in the US.

Huh? Maybe they support Obama because they want better relations between countries, unlike the past 8 years (McCain would only follow Bush’s path). The US will benefit greatly from cordial relations, whether it be financial or the “war on terror”.

Erik – what would be the benefits for Macedonia and McCain though?
Thats the part im trying to figure out..allfreechips – maybe you can answer that question?

Thats the part im trying to figure out..Excellent question! Wish I had an exact answer, but I’m distracted at the moment by the World Series & the beer in my paw. From memory though I think I remember McCain supporting Macedonia’s entry into NATO. I could be totally, completely wrong though. I’ll look into it when I’m not so distracted by such important things :roflmao:
October 24, 2008 at 2:26 am #783859AnonymousInactiveWhen your not #1 you want to bring #1 down is the point.. so of course the many other countries want to level the playing field and have a bend over type leadership.
October 24, 2008 at 2:55 am #783873AnonymousInactiveRenee – Think McCain supported their independence from the former yugoslavia, supported US/NATO intervention against Serbia under Bill Clinton
Without putting words into Chip’s mouth, i believe the point being made, “People outside the US want Obama, because they want the US to fail and feel Obama will help that happen sooner.”

Another topic close to my heart… I’m not racist at all… But it makes me angry when I hear about the fight between the Greeks and the Macos regarding Maco becoming a republic… The Greeks say Macos are Greek, and the Yugoslavs say the Macos are Yugoslav… where does it end. :sarcasm:Anyway thats a topic for another thread…
World Series and Beer… doesn’t get much better than that

I see, so your opinion is that they would vote Obama so they can watch the US fall?

What are the two candidates policies on the ‘war on terror’ and do you think this had something to do with the way people voted?

John McCain is pretty much more of the same.
Barak Obama want’s to get out of Iraq, but increase troop presence in Afghanistan and push/shove/make Pakistan comply with US security requests (entering their tribal lands to pursue taliban/al quaeda).
In short the only real difference is their Iraq stance. Both would continue the war on terrorism.
I happen to support Obama on this stance, but i don’t think the world should think that all the US troops will be leaving the battlefield and heading home. I know a lot of Obama supporters and haters are conviced there will be peace when he comes in, i don’t think so.
I think the difference the rest of the world will notice the sound bites are different:
Where bush said about the terrorist coming to iraq: “I say Bring it On!”Obama might say “We’re going to stand up and fight the Talbin until they’re willing to give up violence and work within a civil system”.
October 24, 2008 at 3:31 am #783883AnonymousInactivelol, Obama’s first stance was instant withdraw, now its withdraw that makes sense. Same as McCains.
Then Obama wants to invade pakistan and screw Isreal. Thats the only difference now. Obama dropped the Iraq difference.

Not so much fall but fall in line with the rest of the world in terms of ending the “superpower”.

Obama wants to leave the option open to act militarily in Pakistan because that’s where the center of Al Qaeda is located. Where do you think Bin Laden & the top of their leadership is? They have been Pakistan since the early days after 9/11. He said that if we have actionable intelligence against specific crucial targets, he will act. Have you not been paying attention? Predator drones have been hitting targets within Pakistan for months. Are you against going after the terrorists responsible for the attacks on our soil? Do you support the Iraq war? If so, why? Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.
The war in Iraq has only created more anti-American sentiment, not only in Iraq but globally.October 24, 2008 at 4:07 am #783896AnonymousInactive@Erik 182658 wrote:

The war in Iraq has only created more anti-American sentiment, not only in Iraq but globally. This is slightly off topic, but when I went to Canada in August I was walking aroudn some markets and came to a store selling T-shirts that said 9/11 was an inside job.. I asked someone and they said that was the general consensus there..
I guess my question is, do people think this in the states too? -
