And Republican’s whined about John Edward’s $400 haircut. :sarcasm:

Palin Clothes Spending Has Dems Salivating, Republicans Disgusted
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/22/palin-clothes-spending-ha_n_136740.html

“Since her selection as John McCain’s running mate, the Republican National Committee spent more than $150,000 on clothing and make-up for Gov. Sarah Palin, her husband, and even her infant son, it was reported on Tuesday evening. “

“Republicans belittled the $400 haircut that former Sen. John Edwards had paid for with his own campaign money (the funds were later reimbursed). And yet, the comparison to that once-dominant news story is hardly close: if Edwards had gotten one of his legendary haircuts every singe week, it would still take him 7.2 years to spend what Palin has spent. Palin has received the equivalent of $2,500 in clothes per day from places such as Saks Fifth Avenue (where RNC expenditures totaled nearly $50,000) and Neiman Marcus (where the governor had a $75,000 spree).”

Oh come on – this hype is reaching hysterical levels.

Let’s be clear, I’m not a US-national, and like 80% of non US-nationals I beleive that Barrack Obama would be a better choice for president, albeit that I’m not actually convinced that he will have the ability to create the change that his campaign promises. Still Obama is my (non-counting) choice.

But even I can see that a candidate (especially an unprepared candidate) will spend many thousands of dollars to primp and prepare their appearance and style to cope with the full on onslaught of being in the public eye for 6 months.

When money is donated to a political party, then it is up to that party to determine how it’s best spent, and surely no-one thikns that Mr Obama looks at all like he did 3,5,10 years ago.

It’s ALL spin ladies and gents, from the suits to the haircuts, to the sound bites, to the adverts, to plumber Joe.

You are talking about $150K, when I believe that I heard that Obama raised $150M last month for his campaign – it’s chicken feed – and as far as I can tell is not inappropriate.

This is not news. This is not outrageous. Sarah Palin, Barrack Obama and John McCain all needed to be “polished” before they appeared before the camera’s because in a land that has HOLLYWOOD to set a benchmark you guys have such a high standard of public appearance and performance to live up to.

And it’s unlikely to come out of their purse – indeed it’s probably better if it does not (as long as it’s declared) as if it was a requirement that it’s all personal money then that closes the door to 99.8% of US citizens ever affording to run. At least this way it is more about the candidates views – and not their bank balances.

What would have been news would have been to hear that ANY serious candidate to a political post DID NOT actually go through this process.

    Just my opinion.

I think the fact that she is running on reform and not wasting our tax dollars so to me it’s news. What’s wrong with shopping at a department store? IMO she is a nice looking female and don’t need all the dressing.

Obama raised an insane amount of money and I think (not sure) he will use it to get other dems elected. What is he suppose to do give the money back?

Palin is spending our tax dollar. :hattip:

That is exactly why this is a story. Don’t call yourself a reformer who’s concerned about fiscal responsibility then spend $150,000 on clothes using campaign donors. Yes, you need to look polished in the spotlight, but $75,000 at Neiman Marcus is just a bit over the top. Especially at time when many Americans are going broke.

I want to clarify what I mean about her spending our money. It was flying her family to events that totaled over $21,000 to places that her family was NOT invited to. She also ‘altered’ the records after it was brought to her attention.

Just like they hounded that Dem about a $400 haircut that he had to re-imburse. Palin needs to cough up her refund to the tax payers of Alaska or stop trying to steal Obama’s message of change. :flush:

Right on grooner, :hattip: best post I have read in here. Your backing the person I am voting against, but your post made so much sense, I’d sponsor you if you wanted to come to the states. Not that you need any sponsor the way Bush lets people stroll across the border, but Id still welcome you.

What a pleasure to read a post that is not bias and I will tell you even though you might not get many thanks, there are others here that think like me, but just don’t wanna get caught in the cross fire.

Some of you are going to need to check in a 12 step program when the election is over cause ya’ll gonna be joansin.

Kindda like those ppl that watched the OJ trial everyday, they were trippin when it ended.

By the way grooner, I always like reading your gamming post’s as well, as this post of your, you make a lot of sense and I get a lot out of what you write.

    Thanks for your contributions.

Can’t folks act and say what they want without you getting all defensive and saying how you are so glad this and so glad that?

If you expect the world to be bias free then I have news for ya. It’s not.

We are all here to voice our opinions and present any posts that we want on any political topic as long as we do it in without personal attacks and IMO you are taking it way to personal. At least it was like that yesterday. With the way the GOP is taking away our rights if folks like you had your way then we would be bounded and gagged or something!

But I still thank you for your contribution anyway. :hattip:

Just messin with ya. the point though I want to clarify what I mean about her spending our money. It was flying her family to events that totaled over $21,000 to places that her family was NOT invited to. She also ‘altered’ the records after it was brought to her attention.

She did nothing that Alaska law deems either wrong or unethical. Thats the truth, they allow their people in office to do things like that.

And its kind of a , I dont wanna say silly, but really, even if it was wrong is she the only one who didNE thing wrong in office, I mean they all do this crap, we all know that. They talk about the other having an affair, then they have one, they talk about steeling money, the that dude in New orleans got caught with thousands of $$ in his freezer, it just goes on and on.

Its messed up, both ways, each side its messed up, I would guess things are pretty even on who is the most corrupt.

This is not an important story to me personally (the shopping spree), but it will resonate with some who have been hit hard in our crumbling economy. The real importance here is that during a time when the economy & money matters are forefront in voters minds, these are not the type of stories that impress them. Very reckless, politically of the McCain campaign. Seriously, think how much excellent publicity they would have gotten had they done some shrewd, cost-conscious shopping, then touted that? Politically, it would have been brilliant.

Where was I defensive, your the one who wrote “Can’t folks act and say what they want”

So when I do you call me on it, I dont get it, it seems like a double standard to me

Just one more thing. There are a few people who dont agree with most of you who really a little worried about posting in here, so its not just me who feels unwelcome, but I will admit, I shoulddnt be in this area with a title like you have and I dont mean that in a bad way. I should know better,

BUT please dont take it out on my other posts in the gamming end of the forum, because I do need it at times,

    Yhanks
