In the last few minutes, the HR 6870 bill has been voted in.hurray.gif

    Quote:

This new bill HR 6870, which will be known as the Payment Systems Protection Act of 2008 blocks the US Treasury or Federal Reserve from legally enforcing any UIGEA regulation…

“To the extent as any such regulation pertains to wagering of the type that is prohibited under chapter 178 of title 28, United States Code (relating to professional and amateur sports protection).”

The bill passed out of the House Financial Services Committee by a vote of 30 to 19.

In order to actually be signed in to law, it must pass the House, Senate, and then be signed in to law by the President. The only way a law like this will be able to make a trek like that is if it is attached to another must-pass piece of legislation (sound familiar?)

All of that being said, it is a huge step in the right direction.
