If online gaming is meant to be dying in the US there sure is a lot of US based political talk stemming from CAP members….

who said its dying? i beg to disagree…although we now have a chance of dying way before online gambling becomes legal again in US. Thanks to dubya and his warmongering staff for bringing in his missile defense system to Poland. This is an interesting read – Nuclear Chicken in Poland: Putin Can’t Afford to Back Down .

as for discussing american politics, it always turns into a Bush bashing exercise and i’m sure all of us do it on a daily basis without even starting threads @ CAP. all the recent events that take place in US politics lead me to think that its a ridiculously hypocritical government. it generally fails its own goals of morality/freedom/fairness and all that other empty rhetoric as soon as it invades/sponsors/gives money/capitalizes an area on our planet. Its an ‘unchecked’ superpower that does what it wants without any consideration of consequences nor anybody else’s interests. “With us or against us” is the latest (since 90s) American political moto. Too bad EU is an impotent organization to be able to keep their western buddy under control.

the fact of the matter is that it stopped surprising me and i see no point in discussing this state of retardation all the time. besides, i don’t live there, i’m from the opposite geo-political spectrum and got quite disillusioned with world’s state of affairs. i congratulate everyone on:

    – having our governments make the word terrorism a household item
    – for skyrocketing fuel and food costs
    – for rising inflation
    – for tiny savings levels that will eventually lead to a massive financial collapse
    – for levels of media propaganda (cnn, bbc, fox. you name it. everyone does it except for a few european channels) that Goebel would be proud of
    – for the looming nuclear stand off between Russia and US
    – for cornering Russia into such a position where it has no option but respond with hostile intent
    – for McDonalds being the main sponsor of Olympics (oh the irony, a burger a day for every athlete!)

    bwuah…i could go on forever…

I don’t think it’s dying myself. What I meant was that the authorities (scum bags that they are) are trying to kill it, and by the amount of Bush bashing that goes around here, it looks like there are MANY US-based affiliates. Unless it’s the whole world that just likes to Bush-bash??

Lol, you are near. What I see as a non-american that he is such an idiot who made his own nation look like a war-lover bunch of folks for foreigners, and I know for sure that the exact opposite is the truth. But what the rest of the world sees are those mis-calculated bombs on innocents in countries that are far away from homeland, attempts to “regulate” another countries just in the name of “prevent terrorism” and the list can go on and on. I find Bush’s foreign policy disgusting, full of misleads for his own nation. But oh, if you believe a politican, you are not from Earth.

I know for sure that american people are very nice, and the damage Bush made for America in the eye of the rest of the world cannot be forgiven – at least I couldn’t forgive him if I was an american.

sipka, i beg to disagree a little bit.

i dont see americans (as people) as war mongerers at all. but their government is. the government has been pulling off an easy trick for decades now, wave the american flag and claim that they have been attacked. this was actually something pioneered by nazis back in the day (back to joseph goebbel, known as ‘false flag’ operation). yea, wave the flag and claim germans are being annihilated by invaders. a bad habit is quite contagious…

latin america is a good example of US struggle to bring democracy there. favour the tyrants for the sake of socialists not taking over in order to bring in ze corporations. virtually every country in latin america has had something to do with american imperialism, if i may call it that.

vietnam apparently was not such a clean sheet either, their attack on US ships was faked (which gave US a legitimate reason to attack). 9/11 doesnt seems so crispy clean either when architects claim that the WTC was built to withstand plane crashes, let alone freefall after 1 hour of burning…i guess you can follow this process with claims of iraq going nuclear, and now iran…

and yea, clinton was in it too. the serbian attack was not so clean on ‘sovereignity’ issues either.

…good friendly policy, all i can say.

the whole difference today is that US has lost its moral validity in the world by blatantly faking its ‘claims’ to war. this can be attributed to internet, people’s inter-connectivity all over the world and that over some time it becomes hard shit to sell.

back in the day, uncle sam was fighting them commies. such awful bastards those communists. they have now been replaced with terrorists. such awful bastards those terrorists. with the recent developments in georgia, the communists are back in action…what a surprise. lets make the world in black and white and rule them all one way or the other. with us or against us, that is no longer the question…

for those interested in an interesting twist to the evil empire story and how close we might be to a nuclear war, read this one. as subjective as it is, it has some points not a lot of media dare to raise.

No no no :) It might have been my bad english again, I completely agree with you, but those people who see what is going in the background for real are just a few. I know people in my country and in other european countries who cannot separate these happenings, they just see “America attacked country A”, “America attacked country B”, “America invaded country C because they assume there is something wrong”. Sadly, buy they won’t separate the real american people and the government. They think that every nation is responsible for their leaders and the leaders’ acts, after all they voted them for power.

Great links Splinter, thanks for sharing them, I really like to know other people’s opinion. Thanks again :)

Americans mess in everyone’s lives, all over the world. This is a kind of snobbiness that comes with being a “Super Power”.

Thing is, the US is on it’s way out as a super power and China is moving in.

I just hope the US adjusts gracefully. Unfortunately in history most super powers were either defeated in war or experienced economic devastation before stepping aside.

The US government is run by the people that the american public pick and the various interests try to control.

I think most Americans, those who aren’t pacifists, are in favor of a strong military and not letting “other people” fuck with us. What differs and what the fight is usually about it is “when we should pull the trigger” and when we should “let up”. Politicians, Media, mob psychology help shape the mood of the society.

So US foreign policy doesn’t happen in spite of the American people, but to a large extent with their consent and support….until things start going wrong, then people start “booing the home team” and demanding peace. Remember last election bush got about 49% of the vote, today his poll numbers can’t usually break 20%. those 29% who switched to “bad job” put him there in the first place because they liked the war and fight on terror back then.

I think its more that other countries are unwilling to step up leaving only USA. I’m not so sure China will do the same.

I think that the waning American Super Power status will inevitibly bring about an end to their role as the ‘Global Policeman’.

Seems that all dominant empires have played this role at the height of their powers, as did the British Empire (Arrr *sigh*)

On the one hand it’s an attempt to promote and spread what they would see as common values. Most of the time though this Global Policeman role is thoroughly tied up with its own economic interests i.e. US-lead Iraqi Invasion/Oil suppply…, British Colonisation of more-or-less everywhere/exploitation of natural resources in Africa and India.

I don’t doubt that China will police it’s interests in the same way.

The upside is that the Chinese may find it easier to build relationships with nations that previously have had little rapore with the The WestTM

The downside will be continued deals with dodgy regimes to allow it to extract resources it badly needs at the expense of The Environment/Human Rights etc

So essentially….., no change whatsoever! ;)

    In the words of ‘Won’t get fooled again’ by the mighty WHO;

“Meet the new Boss. Same as the old Boss!”

100 million brain cells voted and put you in charge of their body. They could have voted differently and put another “you” in charge, but they didn’t. These brain cells are representative of who you are. You are their leader.

So if you turn out to be a total idiot whose fault is it? Your brain cells, right?

The same applies in a democracy.

Maybe…., but my brain cells weren’t lucky enough to have a brother in charge of the State of Florida!

interesting, so according to you who has been trying to fuck with america? name one country that has tried to do that.

i’m quite flabbergasted by your comment. you don’t have to be a pacifist to realize that nobody is attacking you. your government is making a virtual enemy in order to enforce its interest in such places that the majority of your own citizens dont even know where the fuck it is on the map. wowa viva man…nothing personal, but i expected better.

Americans no longer have a government that is for the people and by the people. They have a government for and by special interests and an insane ideology.

But Americans have war, which lets them take out all their frustrations, resentments, and disappointments on “Muslim terrorists” and “Russian aggressors.” Few Americans are disturbed that 1.25 million Iraqis and an unknown number of Afghans have died as a result of American invasions based on Bush regime lies and deceptions. Even Americans, like Senator Biden, Obama’s selection for vice president, who understand that the wars are based on lies, still want the US to win. So, it was all a mistake and a deception, but let’s win anyway and keep on killing.

I know people who still complain that the US did not nuke North Vietnam. When I ask why Vietnam should have been nuked, they reply, “if we had nuked them we would have won.”

What would America have won? The answer is world loathing and the loss of the cold war.

For many Americans, war is like a sports contest in which they take vicarious pleasure and cheer on their side to victory. Millions of Americans are still bitter that “the liberal media” and war protesters caused America to lose the Vietnam war, and they are determined that this won’t happen again. These Americans have no realization that there was no more reason for the US to be fighting in Vietnam 40 years ago than to be fighting today in Iraq and Afghanistan or tomorrow in Iran.

I didn’t advocate the position or policy, i just stated my analysis. You wonder why Bush was elected/relected and still doesn’t care about public opinion.. Well that’s why it all worked for him.

    Don’t shoot the messenger.

    My point:
People who like to pretend the US government is a separate entity from the american people, because “American’s are so nice” are pretty naive. George W had 70+% support when he started the war in iraq, including all those “Nice Americans”.

US public opinion shifts, then people who a year ago were calling you a traitor for voting for John Kerry are suddenly claiming “I didn’t vote for bush”.

    Hodgey –
You’ve got it right, the sun is setting on the US period of super/unitary power, akin to the UK following WWII. Frankly my concern is that the US will descend into a world somewhere between real life UK in the late 60’s/early 70’s and A Clockwork Orange.

    Hi all,

actually there’s more common sense approach here than you’d think.

Thing is we tried to keep W out and it didn’t work. twice. We’ve had plenty of shitty leaders before … its easier to wait them out than start a revolution and that’s about what it takes once they are in.

you hope they don’t wreck the boat beyond fixing before their time is over. W is proving that’s a bad formula but US is so apothetic that unless it bites us in our OWN respective ass … we might bitch about it … might even send a nasty email to our reps … but that’s about it.

and things go downhill fast from that point. we shouldn’t have to be our leader’s watchdogs … but with the idiots we vote in … we need casino type government where we have “eyes in the sky” to keep the moron with the affluent daddy or the pretty white smile, … from blowin’ up the freakin’ world.

I disagree with the statements that we look at war as a sports contest. I think the only ones hard enough to think that way are the old cronies who are in office that obviously don’t even care for their own decendants or they’d be raising hell about the real issues we need to be facing like the fact that look at all we’ve done to our environment in only 50 years. As long as this place has been around we’ve done considerable …almost toppling damage in an amount of time that is equivalent to a drop in a very big bucket.
