REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT – WHICH IS BEST FOR ONLINE GAMBLING?
Internet gambling companies may get a fairer shake from Obama

With Barack Obama now the uncontested presidential candidate for the Democrats, speculation is turning toward whether he would be a better proposition for the online gambling industry in the USA than his opponent, Republican John McCain.

The Sports Memo.com website carried an interesting article on the subject this week, considering the track records of both men, and pointing out that McCain has opposed the legalisation of sportsbetting on college athletics, even in Nevada.

The site quotes material from ESPN in support of its assessment as follows:

“McCain wants to eliminate what he sees as the most troubling aspects of legalized gambling in the United States. He has led the fight to ban gambling on college sports, a battle the Nevada casinos have won (so far), in part by suggesting that he would make Super Bowl and NCAA pools illegal.

“And McCain would ban Internet gambling – not because it’s addictive, but because players typically have no way of knowing whether they are in fair games.”
Sports Memo carries an cautionary quote from Senator McCain, presumably speaking to ESPN: “I’ll give you a little straight talk. There’s going to have to be another scandal, and there probably will be.” That’s McCain: waiting for the next, inevitable burst of bad news to come along, to present an opportunity not only to excoriate wrongdoers but to corral the powerful into doing right. To take another step toward saving sports.”

Looked at from the Democrat angle, Sports Memo opines that the legalisation of online sports betting is not a big issue in the Obama camp, and he has not gone on record supporting it. But he has at least not actively attacked it, either. He’s a poker player who has supported the idea of an independent study of the online gambling industry to assess its impact and how it could be regulated to protect players.

Sports Memo also quotes US law academic Professor I. Nelson Rose, who is an authority on Internet gambling legal matters and opines: “When the Democrats took control of the Senate, Harry Reid, senator from Nevada, became majority leader. Therefore, land-based casinos, which want a study and law allowing them to operate Internet casinos, can get those, if the President is a Democrat. If John McCain wins…nothing will change.

“Assuming Barack Obama … wins, the Democrats will keep control of Congress and there will be a change in the federal law. It might come as early as 2009. More likely, it won’t be until 2010, or even later.

“For political cover, there could be an objective, scientific study done first [as supported by the American Gaming Association], that proves that Internet gambling can be kept safe from hackers, protecting the “vulnerables” (children and compulsive gamblers), and that states that don’t want to allow can be blocked.”

in a more serious form than that UTube video, lets face, not many Americans middle and mainstream, think all Reps. are far right loons, nor Dems far left crazies. Personally, I’d like to believe most people would not agree with that video, or the cartoon I got with a dog, and a homeless woman sitting under a bridge and the Democrate feeds the dog and the homeless lady starves to death, that’s a little out there as well.

Just a thought. Bill Cosby is against gambling and so is Opera, they both feel it hurts the African American Family, also Black Muslims are extremely anti gambling as well. One of the reasons Muslims do not like Americans is because we are pro drinking, pro abortion, pro gambling, pro gay marriage etc. That’s pretty much a fact, they may hate us too because of Bush, Republicans, us backing Israel, but I’m drifting now.

My only point is that things are not as black and white (No pun intended) as these cartoons and videos make them seem to be. I only mention black here, because the thread is maybe Obama will help the gaming industry and he might, I dont know, however there are a lot of Black preachers out there, Muslim and Christian every week talking about drinking, gambling, etc, so it might end up being irrelevant who gets in or maybe even worse if Obama gets in. Maybe he’ll consider, what Cosby, Opera, Farakaum, etc. think and they do think gambling is wrong.

This isn’t the time for silliness on our parts, we need to really try and figure this one out. I guess the video is funny, maybe that cartoon was too, I just think we all need to be partisian on this one.

    Thank you

This whole discussion is making me angry.
I hate them politicians that want to think for somebody else.
If their wouldn’t be a liberal party I wouln’t vote no more.

And politicians! Pay the debts that you have made. But not with my money!

Unfortunately its a necessity and theres no utpopia – even without politicians. Id suggest you could stop letting it get to you by just keeping out of the way where politics is concerned. But just think of the effect politics has upon our industry…makes sense to get rid of the anger and get smart, surely?

Apathy is the worst enemy we have in this country. When good people stop getting angry and seeking a change then nightmares like the last eight years happen.

    Think about it, what if…..

The original colonists decided to ignore politics and remained peacefully at work on their farms and just sent in their taxes to King George without question?

Americans in the North decided to mind their own business and leave the South free to do whatever they wanted. We could have avoided a civil war and remained on our farms or in the factories working and earning a living for our families?

Americans decided to let the Europeans solve their own problems and stayed out of WWII and tended their farms too. (Yes I know Pearl Harbor, but it could have been avoided had we not forced the Japanese into a corner via embargo)?

When people get passionate about whats going on around them and get angry and then finally DO SOMETHING to make things right then world CAN change.

Its time for a change again. Will this generation rise to the occasion?

    But, change what?

Give everyone free medical? I actually have to pay for mine and it’s not cheap, so yea, sometimes I think, lets have the medical like in Canada (where I was born), but then I hear my family up there, 1/2 love the medical, 1/2 hate it. My question is, who really pays for free medical. Gas is more in Canada, taxes are higher in Canada.

I got the 12 hundred dollar stimulus check, I think that idea was crazy, for each kid you have you get an extra 300 bucks, hell that’s going to end up costing me more than the 12 I got.

Did I hear taxation with out representation??, Honestly Pro, no partisan, no rudeness intended, but do either party have our back on taxes?. I think not and I think some will hammer us with wanting to be the hero and get all these programs going. I wanted McCain to get in so bad in 2000, I was a real supporter, I mean the kind that actually went canvassing for him, he was the darling of the media. Got to give him credit, not pork on him at all. I like that, that poke S%&T got us on the gambling thing didn’t it, maybe Imp wrong but I think it was some type of poke deal and McCain does have the best record on that and it’s very tempting for me to vote for him He proved with the McCain Kennedy bill that he is not far left, not at all, most REp’s hate him, lol. So why am I not voting for him? I sure aint voting for a guy that didn’t show up for 100 votes either. In the old neighborhood in Chicago we would call that “No balls man, no Friggin balls.

This is a hot topic in which I tend to get to involved with at times, but as a matter of Principle, I am going with Barr and Root, I think we need more states making and passing laws, not the federal gov. Bush increased the Fed’s and you know Baraka will too. , McCain, I don’t know, all I know is here in CALIF, I don’t want the DMV or DWP telling me what medicine I am allowed to take or what dr I can see.

Professor, come on, you have to agree with some of this I typed, something other than the anti REP stuff I said.

Canada and England pay 6.00 a gallon for gas for Medical insurance for those who dont have it. We pay 5.00 and it goes to some jackasses pocket.

“Stimulas” package was the lamest idea ever. The $$ just went to gas or higher food cost. If they really want to help Americans. Keep the $$ and pay down the National Deficit which will lower inflation and raise the value of the Dollar.

If the Gov’t really wants to help give 4-5k Tax Breaks/Vouchers out to help Americans pay for a Hybrid. Even smarter yet, require ALL gas stations to offer a Ethanol and Hydrogen Mix. Do something for the Environment for once.

    But, change what?

I have a hard time laying off topics like this!icon_laughingloud.gif

    Change What?
Well, it IS change, because we need to UNDO 8 years of complete ignorance, hypocracy, lies about going to war, a dictorship mentality that just yesterday disagreed with a Supreme Court decision made by people HE himself largely appointed, and driving the largest enconomy on the PLANET into the toilet.
Let’s not forget he INHERIETED the biggest financial SURPLUS in U.S. history, and SOMEHOW managed to not only BLOW that money, but ruin our economy, and drive OUR children into a massive debt,……ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!

Who will do better for online Gambling?
    I don’t know?
But I do know that we CHANGE!
or as the the CASE really is,..We need to undo the changes made in the last 8years!

Thanks you very much! End of rant!:hattip:

A lot of what said, 8 yrs of this and worse economy, on and on and on, hearing the said thing over and over, bumper sticker politics, believing whatever you read on the net and being so biased. It’s too obvious on both sides.

You want something to change, change it, or at least try. Vote, that great, but you need more than just going out to vote to change things.

What’s wrong with voting Libertian, people who want to give the states the power. Knocking door to door, give out some literature, answer the phones dome at the Dem or Rep headquarters, that’s making things change. Not these silly one liners, some are true I guess, but man, to vote for anyone based on their gaming ideas and think Obama is your man, he is not not your guy, he is not going to go against top people that are telling him that there are certain things that hurt the Afro American Family.

Obama is to smart of a guy to do something like that.

You’ll need to really look into this and stop the one liners about how much Bush is hated and maybe your right (whoever said the gas was 6 bucks a gal,) but my cousin in Toronto said its almost 7 and he has about 44% of his money taken out of his payroll check.

I said it before, I don’t know how many of you like the DMV and think it’s a pleasant experience, but man, I don’t want those people being the ones referring my doctor.

I’m not talking hate or slamming new 1, but I could whip out facts about how bad Clinton was in office too, things he missed, ignored, was distracted by, why do you think his wife lost the election, ppl didn’t want 4 more yrs of Bill, just as they don’t want 4 more yrs of George and either do I, but McCain isn’t 4 more yrs of Bush, I’m not voting for him, but really, what did he do that’s so bad, I wish he was on the libertarian party, he’d get my vote for sure.

Some of you seem very one sided, too obvious……

Ya/ll need to think on your own. I don’t want anyone being :santa2: with my money, if you don’t mind, offer more of you taxes to the good ole USA Fed GOV. leave mine alone, I pay to much now. . Good nite all, good luck with the game on the 15th. Tomorrow I am helping some senior citizens, our Italian club is providing a free lunch for them and I’m going to some of the nursing homes picking them up and bring them for their free dinner and a little entertainment Anyway way, night all.

A lot of what said, 8 yrs of this and worse economy, on and on and on, hearing the said thing over and over, bumper sticker politics, believing whatever you read on the net and being so biased.

No bias. No Politics from me.
Just real stuff that hurts me financially.
My properties that I worked hard to renovate, maintain, and pay for are now worth 30% less than they were 2 years ago.

No bias, NO POLITICS, just a fact.

The financial surplus All Americans worked hard to generate is long gone courtesy of George Bush, and his Administration, and the massive DEBT he created is REAL.

That too is just a FACT. Not Politics, or Political Bias.

Combine all that with Gas prices rising almost 4 fold under his watch, and wrecking the small business person, as well as the big buisiness is not Political, or Biased.
Again, these are JUST FACTS that have nothing whatsover to do with Politcal preference, or any kind of bias.

These are just a FEW of the negative things that changed under the Bush Adminstration.

Change in definitely in order here.
If I honestly thought that the Republicans would UNDO all the horrible things that have been done in the last 8 years, I might consider it.

While McCain isn’t that bad of a guy, IMO,…if he were to be elected, I think the same OLD Machine would guide policy resulting in very little CHANGE that is desperately needed right now.
Just my Opinion of course, and all opposing views are fully respected!thumbsup.gif

The raw facts as of this minute:

I was just reading these posts when I noticed the the person who started this thread asked the Question, Republican Or Democrat – Which Is Best For Online Gambling?

Then I went into my rant about turning to the Libertarian Party.

I guess I got away from what this thread was intended to be about, I’m sorry I got off the topic.
