I now need to move forward with my complaints to get not only Fortune’s domains taken down (more spam from them received today, btw) but also the spammers domain – which is redirecting via aweber.com.

I think it’s easier to start with one domain of Fortune’s at a time – olgdns.com

This is the info I get from whois for Domain name: 7-sultans.com
The DNS show hosting at olgdns.com

So it’s being hosted via olgdns.com

The spammers domains – aweber.com – shows in whois as:

    – – –

    AWEBER SYSTEMS, INC.

    Record expires on 04-Aug-2015
    Record created on 05-Aug-1998
    Database last updated on 28-Jun-2006

Domain servers in listed order: Manage DNS

    NS1.AWEBER.COM 207.106.239.72
    NS2.AWEBER.COM

    – – –

So it looks like he has his own servers – but (unless the whois info is BS) he’s US-based so there are definite legal action possibilities there.

I’d like to move this to PMs so please PM (or e-mail) me if you are in a position to assist. I want to get the ball rolling on taking these down asap.

Aweber (http://www.aweber.com) is an email service company, and they do take spam very seriously. I actually use Aweber to send out my newsletters (double opt-in, of course). A lot of webmasters with mailing lists use Aweber — not just gambling webmasters.

Taking down Aweber would be like trying to take down Hotmail or Gmail because a spammer used those services to send spam.

I’m not really up to speed with this Fortune spam issue, but I wanted to pass along what I know about Aweber. Hopefully this info saves you some time.

also the spammers domain – which is redirecting via aweber.com

Can you explain this a bit more? Are you saying that when you visit the spammer’s website, you are redirected to Aweber.com?

Ah, yeah – thanks for clarifying. That was actually my first thought – that it was a mailing service but then I thought again for some reaosn. I reported the spam to them yesterday but haven’t heard back yet.

    Thanks again.

    Vendetta?

You do realize that Fortune is a real company that has hundreds of employees who’s family depend on the income they earn working there? Thousands of other affiliates are happy with Fortune and receive monthly commissions that help feed their families too. And I would be willing to bet that tens of thousands of players ENJOY playing at their properties, no?

You want to bring all that to a grinding halt and bring down their domains because there is one spammer who sent you offers for the Fortune brand Casinos? I can understand targeting the spammer, but is it reasonable to disrupt everyones lives over this?

Did Marvyn contact you and try to get the necessary proof to possibly ban this spammer from their program?

If a rogue affiliate accused YOU of spamming and demanded your account be immediately closed and this was a false claim would that be ok? If he DID opt in to your list or newsletter and then report you as a spammer as a way to eliminate the competition would you want your account closed and all your players forfeited without investigation?

If he refused to help the program sort things out and instead went on a campaign at message boards to have them closed down unless they submitted to his demands and shut your account, would that be fair.

Guys we hate SPAM as much as anyone else. We certainly dont advocate SPAM and we do ask our partners to take action against rogue affiliates who use this “marketing” technique. But trying to destroy an entire company over a few emails is a little over the top no?

Can we settle this amicably and sensibly? I will be happy to assist.

Vendetta, no. And if they value their employees so much then they shouldn’t risk their jobs by spamming – continuously and without remorse.

I would be happy to resolve this amicably and sensibly. All it requires is a change of ethical policy.

Then make a show of good faith and give them the data they requested so they can validate your claims of having not opted in to the list please.

Fine. They can have it. I’ll PM it to you.

But you know as well as I do that the spam will continue – only not to myself. That fixes nothing.

Prof, you know as well as I do that I have no reason to BS about this. I have not subscribed to this list. Fortune ARE allowing a spamming affiliate to use either a purchased or a harvested list.

I am surprised you are not being harsher on them. Really, I am.

I think there’s little point me discussing the issue here further.

Thanks! Just received your PM and I am on it. :hattip:

Believe me I hate spammers and want this rogue to stop, but we do have to follow due dilligence or we open up the door for anyone to have anyone elses affiliate account closed by going on the warpath with the program.

Ok I spoke with both Marvyn and the director of marketing at Fortune Affilaites. They take SPAM very seriously and do want to rectify the situation ASAP.

For a start they are going to demand removal of Erik and you Fiction from all lists by the affiliate(s) that were spamming you. Both of your Please PM me with a complete list of all address you have been receiving spam at from Fortune affiliates along with their affiliate tracker IDs.

If anyone else is having a problem with Spam from a Fortune Affiliate please PM me or Marvyn and you will be taken off those lists.

Lets all work together to reduce Spam and I think we can make some real progress.

    Personally…..

I fell removing emails from the lists are about the worst thing to do. This just means they keep their shitty lists and keep spamming.

I talked with FA a long time ago about my Platinum Play email that they gave to a spammer… nothing was done and I still get emails there from all sorts of casino properties.

I get FA spam all the time.. I am not, however, giving up my email to them so they can ‘remove me from the list’. I’d prefer to keep ‘in the know’ about who is spamming so that I can either deal with it with the programs or stop promoting those programs.

That’s the only recourse, IMO… get that spammer removed from affy programs. If the program just wants to keep the spammer and just remove emails from the database – they aren’t worth promoting.
