So I thought i’d be first in to say Barrack Obama has won the democratic nomination…
http://www.cnn.comWhat are everyone’s thoughts?
June 4, 2008 at 2:39 am #769304AnonymousInactivePeople are retarded. When McCain gets elected, listen to the predictable racism claims. If I were an american, I wouldn’t want a president with mentors like Wright.
June 4, 2008 at 2:47 am #769306AnonymousInactiveI’m no expert on American politics (from from it), but if Clinton had won then wouldn’t we likely have the same claims – only with sexism?
June 4, 2008 at 2:51 am #769307AnonymousInactiveSo you guys are saying this based on the fact that you think the Democrats will not win?
Its funny, the reason I asked the question was because I have a friend here from America, and I mentioned Obama and that he won the nomination and that the republicans will most likely get in now and he got angry at me and said that the Democrats have a much better chance now than if Clinton got it…
interesting.June 4, 2008 at 3:06 am #769308AnonymousInactiveI think Clinton had a much better chance of getting the swing votes.
The only way the democrats still have a chance IMO is if Clinton runs with Obama as vice president.
Obama is too far out for a lot of conservatives who may have gone with Clinton.
No matter what, it can’t get much worse than Bush.

So you’re expecting it to get worse ?
I’m glad i’m not the only one who feels that way
June 4, 2008 at 3:43 am #769313AnonymousInactiveHillary is old school and can steal votes from the “average” american, the blue collar white guy that works 40 hours a week. Obama doesn’t. So it isn’t really a matter of is she the best candidate, it’s a matter of who’s going to win it for the Democrats.
My girlfriend is from North Carolina and she is independant leaning on republican. She dislikes McCain and at first she thought about voting for Obama. Not after the Rev. Wright bullshit. Sure now Barack rejects it and left that church, but he stayed there all his life and it took him a long time to stop condoning it.
June 4, 2008 at 10:06 am #769327AnonymousInactiveI don’t think that McCain has much of a chance to win. He is too closely
aligned with President Bush.. and he actually believes in the Iraq War.I will vote for Obama. I don’t think their is anything that you can say
about Obama that could compare to all of the mistakes that has been
made by the Republican administration over the course of the last 8 years.June 4, 2008 at 11:55 am #769329AnonymousInactiveMcCain will have a walk in the park.. None of these guys are good for me and my beliefes but I know national healthcare is bad, real bad.. The Stance on gun rights will lead many to go with McCain. I do not need to pay more taxes for sure!! I need to write a check for this quarter thats bigger than my salary 8 years ago as it is..
If McCain looses this election it will be one for the books..
June 4, 2008 at 1:32 pm #769338vladcizsolMemberThe Democrats will win by a landslide and deservedly so. This country needs a change now more then ever. Over the last eight years of destruction the country has seen:
1. A budget SURPLUS turn into the largest budget DEFICIT in the history of this country. Its shameful. Even more shame is Republicans have the audacity to claim they are the fiscal conservatives. Check the facts. Repubulicans are bankrupting this country and sending all our money to special interests like Big Oil, Haliburton and the likes. They are lining their pockets while 98% of the rest of American suffer and will be saddled with this mountain of debt for many years to come.
2. An unjust and fabricated war in Iraq which drags on and on. John McCain supports this fiasco and says he is willing for us to stay there 100 years (close to his age). Well there never were weapons of mass destruction, there were no Iraqis on board the planes of 911 they were virtually all Saudis. There was no connection with Al-Qaeda or funding of terrorism. Iraq IS a training ground for Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups NOW thanks to GW and the Republicans. We have spent TRILLIONS of dollars in Iraq on this illegal war effort, rebuilding what we destroyed and via outright theft. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis who did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to America are dead. We also have 3600+ Americans who DIED there and 20,000+ who are permanantly disabled. FOR WHAT? Who in gods name would vote to extend this? (Other then Republicans and John McCain)
3. A devestated economy that has been in recession for nearly two years with no end in site. A shattered Real Estate Market where thousands of Americans are losing thier homes eveyday. Inflation is raging. The Dollar is almost worthless against other world currencies. Foreign governments and nationals are buying up America via T Bills and company acqusitions. The list goes on and on.
4. When Bush took office the average cost of gasoline was $1.48 per gallon now its $3.97 and in many places much higher (I pay $4.29). The fact that the Bush family has strong interests in oil doesnt seem to phase the cluseless Republicans who turn a blind eye to this as their banks accounts are drained every month. How stupid could they possibly be?
Condoleezza Rice sits on the board of Chevron. Dick Cheney was President of Haliburton and is still a top shareholder. All of the current administration is making a mint while the US people sink further and further into debt. Wake up you Republican imbeciles before YOU end up homeless.
5. American prestige and leadership around the world has been devastated by the actions of the Republicans and the Bush Administration. Its time we became a LEADER once again. We need to Lead the world towards freedom and democracy rather then towards destruction, hatred, division and ultimately death. American needs a CHANGE and the world desperately needs that CHANGE to occur also.
6. Personal Freedoms. Under the Republican tyranny we have seen a constant erosion of our freedoms and rights. What happened to the concept of “Less Government Intrusion in our lives” that the Republicans used to espouse?
The near wreakage of our industry is a perfect illustration of what to expect from Republicans and John McCain. Less Freedom. More Laws. The far right wing deciding what THEY sit fit you each and every American. I guess they believe its their divine right to do so? Perhaps they fancy themselves as Royalty? I say BULLSHIT! American was founded on the concept of personal freedoms for ALL Amercans. Millions have died since our conception to protect that founding princple and it’s high time we shout down and vote out the right wing extremists who are silently taking over our and destroying our country!
Whew ok my blood pressure is worked up, time for a breather….
Carry on and remember to vote for a Free America we call be proud of and prosper in , VOTE DEMOCRAT.
June 4, 2008 at 1:36 pm #769340AnonymousInactiveEither way us lil folk are in for a world of hurt and frustration. Dont forget no matter how much the parties fight they are still on the same team vs us..
June 4, 2008 at 5:16 pm #769348AnonymousInactiveI have to agree with Professor. I just don’t see McCain getting elected. Obama’s energetic and sincere attitude is a refreshing change from the sluggish, worn-down, senile candidates that traditionally litter the lineup.
I think there will be a lot of new voters this November, far more than the usual influx of 18-year-olds, and that these first-timers will be voting for Obama.

pffffft…another nail in the coffin!
i hate for donald rumsfeld to miss out, so here comes his charming story:
Donald Rumsfeld used to chair Gilead Sciences, who holds the patent on tamiflu
, before he became the head of defense. when he joined office he was asked to give up his stock in this company (estimates range from $8m-$39m in stock) since it conflicts with the interest of the government. when asked to choose between his business interests and his public calling, he simply refused. “epidemics are national security issues and therefore squarely within the portfolio of the defense secretary. yet despite this glaring conflict of interest, Rumsfield failed to sell of his Gilead stocks.”apparently because of this conflict of interest, Rumsfeld had to leave the room when talk touched on the following topics: “flu treatment and purchase of drugs for it, aids, high-profile mergers and sales involving top defense contractors including GE, Honeywell, Northrop Grumman, Silicon Valley Graphics.”
during the time rumsfeld spent in office, “the pentagon purchased $58 million worth of Tamiflu, while the Department of health and human services announced that it would order up to $1 billion worth of the drug a few months later.”
also during this time Gilead’s stock rose by 807%….do the math.

I agree with that. But will their numbers be high enough to make up for the swing voters who won’t vote for Obama? He has a few things going against him, like lack of experience, weird church ties and unfortunately racism is still well and alive in the states.
The Bush supporters are still there, and ready to push McCain through with the same devious miscount of votes that got Bush in twice. That really needs to be watched.
I think in the end it will boil down to whether people are ready to leave Iraq, and I think that’s the issue where democrats have a good chance, regardless of who the democratic candidate is.
June 4, 2008 at 6:22 pm #769354AnonymousInactiveIt’s sad to say, but Obama only won because he got 95%+ of black votes (but they aren’t racist, right?).
The thing is, Democrats ALREADY own a huge amount of ethnic votes (blacks and hispanics). In every election they get about 90% of black votes. So where exactly are all those new votes he’s supposed to bring in? Every election people try to build a case that “young voters” will make a difference. The fact is it never happens. It’s the same in every democracies, 18-24 people don’t vote.
Bush or no bush, the US is filled with conservatives and conservative people won’t forgive and forget all the Rev. Wright bullshit and the anti-white, we’re victims mentality.
