 @ Merkin at the bottom of that story. Who would think of that???
June 3, 2008 at 12:15 am #769169AnonymousInactiveNot sure but I think it will be my favourite word for the rest of the week
June 3, 2008 at 12:28 am #769170StarBucksSportsMemberWell, I would love to hear what context you use it in
Not many of those going around these days.
June 3, 2008 at 1:11 am #769175AnonymousInactiveWell I shamefully must say that I use the C word quite a lot so maybe I’ll replace it with Merkin… even if its not in context I think it will still be hilarious..
June 3, 2008 at 1:16 am #769176StarBucksSportsMemberShamefully?
I thought it was common regional dialect here in Aus :tooconfus
June 3, 2008 at 2:10 am #769179AnonymousInactiveIt is, but there are still people out there who don’t like the word..
I don’t blame them I guess.. there are words I don’t like…Such as cleaning.. working.. etc :roflmao:
Actually I really hate the word fanny.. For all those ‘non aussies’ we dont call your backside ‘fanny’… here that is the other side. And I cannot stand that word. I think its disgusting. I dont mind if people use it but I just cant say it myself. Makes me shudder.
Go figure..June 3, 2008 at 2:49 am #769180StarBucksSportsMemberThe Office – Season 2 – Episode 5
Keith: A lot of crime in America.
Dawn: Right. Well, I’ll be careful.
Keith: Word of advice: keep your traveller’s cheques in a bum-bag.
Dawn: Thanks. I- I’ll buy one.
Keith: Well, when you get there?
Dawn: Yeah.
Keith: Word of warning, then: out there they call them fanny packs. ‘Cause fanny means your arse over there… (pause) not your minge.Cringeworthy…
June 3, 2008 at 3:58 am #769184AnonymousInactiveIsn’t The Office the one with that guy from 40 year old virgin? Or is there an english version of the show that I havent seen?
Minge sounds english.. i love that word. its so dirty LOL
I cant stop laughing now.June 3, 2008 at 4:08 am #769185StarBucksSportsMemberThe UK version rules all comers.

Ricky Gervais is a legend. Do yourself a favour, and buy the UK version on DVD. The only problem is that you’ll start talking in Office quotes. It’s funny as hell, but people generally think you’re mad.
June 3, 2008 at 4:43 am #769189AnonymousInactiveWill do – I’m sure they would appreciate something other than Napoleon Dynamite quotes
June 12, 2008 at 6:41 am #769915StarBucksSportsMemberLol. Gotta love Australia indeed…
Some funny Aussie laws:
- Children may not purchase cigarettes, but can smoke them.
- You may never leave your car keys in an unattended vehicle.
- It is illegal to roam the streets wearing black clothes, felt shoes and black shoe polish on your face as these items are the tools of a cat burglar.
- It is illegal to read someone’s tarot, or give them a psychic reading as these are forms of witchcraft.
- Under Australian Communications Authority (ACA) regulations, your modem can’t pick up on the first ring. If it does the ACA permit for your modem is invalid and there’s a $12000 fine. – Telecommunications Act 1991.

LOL – I think a few of these have been ammended…
The cigarette one – you can’t purchase cigarettes unless you are over 18, but can smoke them from the age of 16 (i think this one is ridiculous)..
Didnt know about the car keys one, although I do know that if you are caught sleeping in your car whilst intoxicated and have your keys on you, even if you’re asleep in the back seat or whatever, they can charge you for intention to drive whilst under the influence or something like that..
The one about witchcraft – that one surprises me since all our aussie magazine have so many adverts for these businesses in the backs.
Its also illegal here to eat cats and dogs or slaughter any other animal not included in the meat industry act..
In Melbourne (which you would know mate) they have something called a hook turn.. Basically here is Oz, you drive on the left hand side of the road, which means, if you’re turning right at an intersection you would turn right from the right hand lane… In melbourne, a hook turn is where you turn right from the far left hand lane.. So you pull out in to the left, wait until the lights are about to turn red, then once everyone stops you turn and all the other cars wait for you.. It’s very strange and confusing and Melbourne is the only place in Oz that has them.
Gotta love semi-useless facts.
June 13, 2008 at 12:56 am #770001StarBucksSportsMemberThe Hook Turn!!!
When I first got here I rented a ute to move into my new apartment. I had sweaty palms the whole way trying to avoid doing one of those. Confusing as hell.
Had to do one eventually, but came away unscathed. I was just afraid of getting hit by a tram. I think that would ruin your day.
June 16, 2008 at 12:00 am #770212AnonymousInactiveThe trams freaked me out the first time I drove in Melbourne too, but you get used to them. Just gotta treat them like extremely slow moving cars
If only they would move into the left hand lane so you could overtake them..Personally, I think Melbourne is so much easier to drive in. Sydney is crap. Too many one way streets and tolls everywhere.. One night i was driving to the casino from the south where I live, and usually I would have to pay ~$3 something for the toll to get there quickest but because coming out of the tunnel some asshole wouldn’t let me into their lane on the left, I had to drive another 30 minutes and $20 in tolls later to go back the way i came from and turn around to go into the casino that way again because of the one way streets and not being able to get in on the other side… Then I mistook the Paddys markets parking for the casino car park and had to pay another 20 bucks in parking and 10 bucks to catch the tram over to the bloody casino..
I hate Sydney
