EVEREST RELEASES UPDATED DEMOGRAPHICS STUDY
Online poker firm allies again with Jupiter Research in second editionThe online poker firm Everest Poker has updated its February 2007 demographics study of European poker players (see previous InfoPowa report) with a second review carried out in partnership with Jupiter Research. Once again a sample of 3 000 players in 16 European countries was used.
It appears from the latest numbers that the game is now most popular with a demographic of both younger and women poker players, with the most significant growth in the 18-24 age group. Germany showed the highest increase in this age group – 41 percent compared to only 17 percent in the first survey at the beginning of 2007. In the 2007 review, poker players tended to be older in Germany with 32 percent between the ages of 35 and 44.
By comparison, Swedish players in the same age demographic rose by 25 percent (2007: 18 percent)
Spanish women are increasingly turning to the online poker tables for entertainment and reward, with a reported increase of 44 percent compared to the February 2007 total of 16 percent. Interestingly, Spain boasts one of the highest percentages of households in Europe with broadband Internet connections – predicted by Jupiter Research to reach over 4 million [households] and 67 percent of the country’s total population – by 2008.
Overall, the percentage of women players has increased sigificantly in Europe and now represents 34 percent of all players (2007: 18 percent)
