When it comes to buying links for your site, I’ve heard a lot of people say that it’s quality not quantity which is important.

    But how true is this?

I mean, is it worth spending your link budget on one site that appears on the first page of Google for a particular phrase rather than four or five other sites which don’t appear in the first 10 or 15 pages?

    Where does the line blur?

    Thanks very much

I think the main theme these days with quality, is which site is more relevant to your site, rather than which site has a higher page rank, or ranks higher in the organic search results.

If they are all pretty relevant to your site, I would go for the multiple links, rather than the one relevant link with a higher rank.

    Hope that helps, good luck!

At CAP London MediaDonis said in the SEO session that you can find out who the absolute best site to get a link fromby simply googleing your keyword – So for example if you google “online casinos” you get 888, spin palace and then jackpot.co.uk – You aren’t going to get links from the first two so try jackpot, if they say no, move onto the next and so on – And he said that is the absolute best way to build up your links – But hey who knows

Yeh, it is a very blurry subject that changes with every algorithm update!

Getting good permanent link from authority sites has to be the way to go. I have seen this work for some other businesses I run that are far less competitive than online gaming and you sure can dominate areas with not much competition with a slight bit of SEO knowledge.

There are some great SEO blogs and podcasts out there. One great one I found is the Delicious page for Wil Reynolds. I saw Wil at Affiliate Summit West in Vegas and he talked a lot of sense.

Thanks alot for the replies – much appreciated!

Another quick question for you … do search engines only look at current inbound links when calculating placement? What I mean is, if I have a link on an authority site for 6 months, will Google ‘remember’ that that site linked to me for a little while after the link has been removed?

Or once it comes down, do I immediately lose the effect of that inbound link?

    Thanks alot

The quality of inbound links greatly outweighs quantity. 5 links from “authority” sites will raise your ranking much higher then 500 low value links in the same niche or 50,000 worthless links scattered all over the place.
