    Hi all,

thank you in advance for your replies.

i have a bunch of sites (30 and looking to increase) and up to now I’ve paid like $6 a month hosting cost per site.

Its easy and they have proven reliable.

But I think its time I moved to the next step. I don’t know the terminology to even ask.

is it dedicated server? anyway I want to be able to put all the domains on one hosting package that allows me to add more when I want.

I want to make sure the route chosen is one that the search engines will not find fault.

I have heard its better to have a separate IP address for every domain. So if that’s true then I wouldn’t want a package that has all my domains looking like they have the same IP.

does any of that make enough sense for you to advise me?

    :)

I use a VPS and pay for additional IP’s. That’s one way to do it.

You can do the same with a dedicated server, but the cost is much higher.

before you get in dedicated server you should realise the cost to maintain them.If you know how to set up your own domains ,assign ips etc then i would recommend dedicated over virtual Everyday. http://www.iweb.ca which i use for one server will manage it for you for 50.00 a month.Their 69.99 price is actually a good server for low tech websites ,if you have file download sites like i have then you need something a bit faster.

    Hi BB1 –

Try mojohost.com. Tell them what you just said and they will have no problem. It’s about 250$ for a good machine all your own.

As many domains on the server as you like. They will accommodate separate IP for every site no/problem.

This price is for a managed server. which means if you want an email setup, just just the ticket system and say, I’d like blah blah blah on such and such domain.

Have a new site? ticket them: Can you please setup suchandsuch.com on the server for me? then they do it.

When you login to ftp the sites you will see them all in a separate folder

    site1.com
    site2.com

    etc…

open the folder of the site you want to work on , and whala!

let me know if any questions

BB1, I have a reseller hosting account with hostgator and they are great but its still shared hosting and very limited. I also have VPS accounts with futurehosting.biz and powervps.com Both are managed and the support is great. Extra ip addresses cost $0.50 to $1 per month. I also have a dedicated server with softlayer.com and they are also a great company. Any other hosting companies, I either haven’t tried them or I have and they suck.

I would recommend starting with a vps as that is much cheaper than dedicated and should be more than sufficient for your 30 sites plus more. I have about 800 domains on one of my VPS boxes with no problems.

Before choosing a host, I recommend checking out webhostingtalk.com and reading some reviews. Also check the special offers forum as many companies will give you special rates to sign up with them.

    VPS Specials

    Dedicated Server Specials

If you don’t know much about configuring servers, I would make sure that the company you decide to go with offers managed service and cpanel.

Hope this helps with your hunt for a new server.

BB1…. I concur with Tarzan… MojoHost is hard to beat!

I’ve had a dedicated server with them since they started… I actually had the 5th Dedicated server and have been with them for over 5 years!

The cost does not do justice to the service, which is just superior to anything else I’ve tried. The first 68 IPs are included, and you have more storage and BW than you will need to ever worry about! They are in one of the best data center’s in the world with multi-honed BW….

Contact Brad there and he will take the time to explain everything they offer.. he’s a great guy!
