Hi SEO gurus and not so gurus,
SEO, my question is, is it such a bigger beast as it’s made to believe?
No matter how much enthusiastic you feel about starting, you’re always put down by the posts here that tell you how difficult and time consuming it is.
I’m no Tom Cruise and certainly do not intend to join mission impossible, so what i’d like you guys to explain is what’s so hard about i? Is it the actual coding of the sites, or the link exchanging or what? The bottom line is, for a begginer to SEO how do you get to kick the beast in the balls and start cracking the thing.I really have trouble understaning and I’ll give you an example:
Last week I bought a new domain, created a quick site, no SEO or even meta tags (it was supposed to be done later when I found time), and yesterday I got hits on google. Followed the trail and I rank first for a key phrase that I could only dream of. How is this possible? I don’t even have a single link to that site.I hope some of the Gurus can shed some light on this as I’m sure that other begginers are quite afraid of the beast.
Cheerio,

If you created a site about a short-lived but topical news item, there would be no point in having to wait to build up links etc as by the time Google started listing it, it would no longer be relevant.
So in certain cases Google lists brand new sites for competitive keywords. But it never lasts. You’ll get a period of grace of a week or two, then you’ll be back to the grind of acquiring links – the more natural the better.
March 20, 2008 at 11:18 am #763737AnonymousInactiveI can back up what Fortune said. Even for some competitive markets, I’ve often found that for a week or two a new site will rank very well and generate good traffic. After the glory period…. it’s back down to earth with a bang.
March 20, 2008 at 11:47 am #763741AnonymousInactiveWhat’s the hardest part about SEO, where do begginers start? The site coding, the linking, what’s the formula for rankings?
How to tackle the beast?:hattip:March 20, 2008 at 12:01 pm #763745frankBPMember1st step: make sure all your pages are optimized – specific keywords, keyword density (around 8%), different title tags;
2nd step: make sure your internal linking structure passes importance to where you want it;
3rd step: get links! And where you have control, ensure the anchor text matches the on-page keywords/content.
Steps 1 and 2 will take you very little time – they should be built into your site design process.
Step 3 is ongoing and infinite. Getting natural links takes time. If you’re tempted to go down shady routes, you’ll buy short term success and long term ruin. Give it 12 – 18 months mimimum before you expect too much return on your work.
Best advice: Do the right things and be patient!

March 21, 2008 at 6:14 am #763815AnonymousInactiveOh my, ya know
I did search for a few diffrent keyword density checker to compare
and I get a diffrent result on each of them
I mean very diffrent, 1 says for keyword casino 7% , and another one 5%
and the next 3,4% and so on.
Which one can be really trusted.
Is it maybe better to pay a good SEO tool?
Any recommendations what to do?Thank you all
MarinaMarch 21, 2008 at 8:58 am #763819frankBPMemberThese tools vary because some include the Title, Description and Keywords Tags as well as the pure content, and some don’t.
My advice: check out the top 10 results for a given keyword phrase and run them through ONE of the tools. Then you have a standardised test score to aim for.
The tool I suggested has worked fine for me! :wink-wink
March 21, 2008 at 9:10 am #763820AnonymousInactivethe tool you suggested is super and easy and fast
I love it,
does this one include title and alt and all?and what does google include?
also everything like title and alt tags?you say keyword density 8% is good?
I see many have about 5, ?Many thanks Andy

March 21, 2008 at 9:53 am #763821frankBPMemberThe one I suggested doesn’t include everything, just the content.
I don’t think Google actually state whether they include it all or not. Again, your best bet is to test with one specific tool. Given that the results are top 10, they must be ok in Google’s eyes!
