Barney Frank today announced a spring time hearing to discuss his Bill to legalize and regulate online gambling. Possible reversal of current Internet gambling laws in the US are becoming more likely as situations unfold.

Maybe, but I understand that Canada is about ready to pass a law very similiar to the US gambling act since it seems to be working.

That’s actually not true. An editorial writer simply wrote his opinion on what might happen in Canada, however, that opinion has been shot down strongly as just that, opinion. Many other opinions are that Canada is more likely to regulate the industry as their history dictates that they are not normally a nation that prohibits gaming.

Adding to the momentum of possible US online gambling regulation, the European Union today announced an investigative probe into the US laws that prosecute foreign companies while providing safe haven for American ones (such as horse betting sites that accept bets online)… If, at the end of the investigation they find these hypothesis’ to be true, which they will, they will then bring the case to the WTO, just like Antigua did, and the EU, obviously, is much more intimidating than lil-old-Antigua…

The probe/investigation will last approximately 6 months.
