Captain Cooks Casino was featured in a Danish television program called “Kontant” 4 days ago. It appears that Captain Cooks Casino has sent a letter and a CD by snail mail, to a lot of people in Denmark, who claims they never asked for this and they say they never heard of the casino before.

In the letter they are being offered €500 free and promised they can keep their winnings. However, the terms for this bonus is not explained properly in the letter, so if people don’t know how this PLAYMONEY promotion works, this can look like a scam. I know how this promotion works because I’m an affiliate, but noobs don’t know all these complicated rules!

This publicity in prime time television has been really bad. A lot of people in Denmark are worried and some wants to ban online gambling.

I would like to know how Captain Cooks Casino got the addresses for the people who received this letter. Have they played at another casino in this group? Have they said “yes” to receive offers from Captain Cooks Casino or other casinos in this group or is this just snail mail spam?

    Looking forward to a reply!

    Hey CasinoListen,

The list you are referring to is a list of subscribed people who sign up for these sorts of promotional material which comes from a third party subscriber company.

All the terms and conditions are listed on our website, I believe the issue could stem from the fact that the CD and offer letter were sent in English to a Danish address where terms can be mixed up in translation.
It seems the article was not very well researched and the fact is that the people complaining actally won on the free hour and then went on to purchase in order to redeem the winnings.

Hope that answers your questions :)

If I understand you correctly, you bought the addresses from another company? Have you investigated this company before you bought the addresses? Are you 100% sure people said yes to receive snail mail offers from you?

It wasn’t an article it was a television program, and the people who received the CD was very amazed because they never heard about the casino. I have also seen MANY posts on Danish forums where people talk about this strange letter. Captain Cook’s reputation is not good in Denmark after this. Many people believe you’re a scam. According to Danish marketing law you can’t say something is free if you have to use money to get the “free” product. :hattip:

They may not have heard of that casino. But Yaniv said they were people that signed up to receive offers like this from a 3rd party. There’s a million places I see all the time that when I join it asks me if I’d like to receive special offers from their partners, etc, also. In which case, if this was one of those offers they wouldn’t have necessarily heard of the casino specifically.

    I hope that made sense.

    Hi all,

as many know i am a firm supporter of Rewards affs/Casino Rewards.

I may have been guilty in the past of having my ads show up in places I never knew would show up there because I trusted PPCs and then later found out they were using unethical methods to gain clicks to charge me. And I think most know I’d never do anything intentionally unethical. And I appreciate the benefit of doubt. Perhaps give CR the chance to investigate because like with the PPCs …… I never dreamed they were doing something I wouldn’t aprove.

    about CR/RA

they are top-notch in getting player satisfaction ….. though there have over the last 8 years been about 3 times i had to go to aff managers to find satisfaction. (one of those times was the poker room run by another group besides RA who simply use that software and then you run into having to deal with two separate entities …… one being RA which does their best to satisfy and the other *Prima …. the poker software provider …. which has a lot to learn in customer service. RA has to go thru them to get satisfaction so it takes longer but they have in the end always prevailed) – I also remind that customer service agents are small-time and often won’t …. or don’t want their superiors knowing there is a problem so they don’t above their position to get satisfaction but rather choose to just piss off players. if/when the management of CR knows about these people … they make the players happy and I assume deal with the stupid CS agent that was hiding their mistake or arrogance.

that is an amazing small number of situations which even then …. once I stepped in and contacted my aff mangagers ….satisfaction was always found for the player.

what must be recognized is that in almost all incidents i encountered and had to step in was …… a mis-understanding by the player and never a misleading matter on the part of the casinos.

Now that said. The ONLY problem I ever had with this group was they don’t cross-promote with aff tags when sending out CDs. A matter i on a personal note have chosen to overlook because I at least know I don’t get shaved and to counter-act the cross-promo that doesn’t include our tags is simply to ask my players to return to my site to choose their next CR casino.

now I may even be wrong about the lack of aff tags on cross-promos. At least I know my players aren’t being stolen and I stand behind that. I have large players that have been with them for years and they have had many chances to steal these players and do not. I know this for a fact in many cases though I can’t sit here and claim I know every single situation.

I just call them as I see them and I think CR is way above average as an aff program.

if I was shilling I’d surely not bring up anything negative. And as mentioned I have little to bitch about.

It does seem to take time to build a player base as for some reason they don’t convert perhaps as quickly as others ……. but in the same breath .. what you do convert …. seems to stay and I believe you are always given credit for these conversions and the income they make …. for the long run.

The staff is above most any others. You may think you have better aff managers somewhere else…… but I warn many “available” aff managers are there so easily to you because they can afford to be……. you don’t make any damn money with these programs and focal click really comes to mind as well as vegas partner and others i could go on and on about.

To summarize …… CR/RA has been a leader in attacking spammers, content theives and unethical behavior by unsrupulous affs.

Don’t throw out the baby with the bath water.

I am fairly sure they bought the addresses from a 3rd party address marketer. In all likelihood even the Danish post will have a sub division that offers such services.

The execution of the campaign looks pretty incompetent though. It looks like they just jumped in without any sort of prior consultation about the legal environment in Denmark.

If you say so i believe you! My no.1 program too!

Players keep coming back even after months!

Do you have an example that a progam can “steal” a referred player?
I have never seen this and do not like to see this happen.

The hypothetical way of how this would work if a casino went down that route:

The casino query their db for large whales tagged to affiliates and then send out a couple of emails offering these players bonuses to change to new accounts. The player has no clue why this could be a problem and goes ahead and opens a new account…. and the affs get screwed!

p.s.: there are many more scenarios in which you can get shaved or screwed even before anything appears in your aff backend. Above example is only illustrating how they may steal players that have already been tagged.

    Hi all (Gold)

well an example of stealing players might well be when you land a good player and they make good money a month or two …. and then are gone. Then you get a letter from that player saying they signed up at that casino in the group and when they have a problem they are playing at that casino where you signed them and the player is asking for help and you’re like ……. but I’m not showing any income at that casino. That is a big freakin’ red flag your player was pretty obviously stolen.

basically its where they take that good player off your account. That in my book is stealing.

its one thing to cross-promote and not give credit. While I’m very big against it ….. especially with most programs …… the reason for that is that many programs won’t even bother to cross-promote without adding your tags yet you don’t see continued income at the casino you originally landed the player.

I have a pretty good relationship with many of my players and I’d know if that happened (not in all cases but it would show up eventually as I’ve caught programs doing that). That is out and out stealing.

I might be wrong in saying this (and I hope i’m wrong and they correct me) …… but I think CR does cross-promote with CDs without our tags in them. But I consider it lesser of two evils and am willing to live with it though I wish they’d change that …. and God I hope I’m saying this right because I don’t want to mis-represent CR.

But like I said ….. at least they give you credit for the life-time of the player as long as they are playing at the casino you signed them at. I have been all over in my years. Brightshare and Casino Rewards are the ones that I know have players playing from literally years back. That’s cool with me even if I risk losing them to cross-promos that don’t include my tags because also as mentioned i make a point to ask surfers to return to my site to sign up at any other sister casino in the above groups ….. though I think Brightshare even gives credit for cross-promos. I know they do for when a player switches to the VIP casino. *Kudos.

Stealing a player has to do with that player disappearing from the casino you signed them up at in the beginning.

Keep in mind…. back in the day most aff programs that cheated us didn’t even give us enough respect to bother to steal. they just completely shaved … now IMHO …. the approach is to steal players proven to make money month after month and show all conversions because it makes the aff think they are still doing good….. they never question why they don’t continue to grow in a player base …… of players that continue to play.

Yes you’ll see the ones that don’t ever play. makes the aff programs (in question…. the ones cheating) ….. look good because you continue to get conversions and it appears to those not experienced …. they are gaining. while in fact they are only gaining if they get new players every month. Where are the old players?

People are creatures of habit. I still play at casinos I joined more than 5 years ago. yet at some of those …..I am the only one still showing as playing even though I’ve sent considerable real money players over the years. Am I the only one out of all those that ever stays loyal. Ever returns to play? Highly doubtful.

Bottom line my friend! If your income doesn’t continue to grow while you continue to send more and more players….. you’re getting screwed or else the casino is so incompetent they aren’t worthy of sending more players because its like sending good money after bad.

And Vegas Partners is a real stinker about that. I started out making good money with them and the more exposure I gave them …. the fewer and fewer income I saw until it was nothing and I strongly suspect I made good money at first until they got exposed to my surfer base and then things fell off to nothing. This was a huge contrast to what i first saw in the first couple or three months. How is it that I saw such great numbers and then even though I was sending more traffic ….. it fell off to nothing. Doesn’t make sense other than something was fishy or they are so incompetent they can’t keep a player and I know they DO play players (or used to) … so there’s no reason I should have seen such a drop off. And yes VP .. you deserve everything I said and I know there are others that have experienced same and while I did not call you cheats….. I do say if not that ….. then you are so incompetent that you are unworthy of promoting. *and I bet even those still promoting them and making some money …. have not seen an increase even though they keep sending players. ** and yes … this all happened before the new laws in the states so that has nothing to do with it.

I can elaborate if that didn’t make my point.

VP is what I was hinting at (not to be confused with Vegas Affiliates!). I think that was almost 2 years ago or so that they did that. Or were caught doing that. Don’t know if they ever stopped.

    Hi again all (Gold),

well I think the difference ….. or what i was trying to point out is that Vegas Partners I think do more than just cross-promote without tags.

Like I said people are creatures of habit. how is it that I lost every bit of income at Vegas Partners if all they were doing was cross-promoting (without our tags) …. and yet with CR whom I think have never made a secret they do that …… I still have seen positive growth with them over the years?

I would have understood if my peak days with Vegas Partners had fallen off some ….. but it fell to nothing.

because I get limited traffic but am lucky enough to get decent sized players …. I can judge when a player remains playing and while (off the bat anyway) ….. I got very good conversions at Vegas Partner ….. (real players) … my income dropped to nothing while at the same time ….. even if CR is cross-promoting without tags …. I still have maintained a reasonable increase in income over the years (of course it dropped off when all casinos dropped off during the US new laws) … it still stayed within reason of all other programs …. while Vegas Partner dropped to nothing long before the new laws came into effect.

just doesn’t make sense. and is why i dropped Vegas Partners.

Suffice to say that it is unlikely even if VP got some players to jump ship to another of their casinos in a cross-promo that didn’t give me credit …. that it is a huge red flag that at least some of these players didn’t stay at the original casino I did have them signed under my account.

I recently got a letter from Vegas Partners ….. this now years later….. asking how they could pay me the whopping $25 profit I had coming.

sorry but that’s a slap in the face and I guess I’ll donate that to them in hopes they can perhaps put the money towards their children since I figure if someone who was making them money got treated like I did ….. I have little hopes for those who actually cost them money on a monthly basis.

*Please note – again if I am wrong about anything I said about CR concerning cross-promotion….. I hope Yaniv or Renee jump in and correct me as I don’t mean to mis-represent them in any way because they are a very quality program IMHO.

    BB1,

I just reread my post and it seems as if I was referring to cross promotion. I wasn’t. This is how someone told me he caught VP stealing big accounts from him by urging players to open new accounts at the same casino without it being tagged to the aff. I.e. If the aff referred a player to Maple Casino they would send him an email to incentivise him to open a new non-aff tagged account at Maple Casino in order to receive a bonus.

Don’t ask me why they had to jump through this loop to achieve this. Normally you would suspect they have a geek do a few updates on the database to steal a whale but apparently in this case they had to resort to this more complicated scheme.

    Hi all (G),

well that also would explain why I saw income drop off. I had never heard about that little tactic.

I guess in the end it doesn’t matter. A quality aff program will continue to see an increase in bottom line (setting aside of course such setbacks as what we have endured with change in laws) …… but even in such case as a change in laws it is unlikely an aff will see a continued drop to nothing. …… more likely they will perhaps see a setback as I did with many programs but those of quality like CR have already begun to bounce back in fine fashion considering the obstacles they have been forced to get around.

And programs that can’t seem to show profit of reasonable proportions, that are a waste of your hard-earned traffic …. will not reap the lion’s share of this industry and its good that they are outed for what they are …. unprofitable bad choices to promote.
