Not sure how to quote this article, so you will just have to read the CGW article if you are interested…
Here is a little synopsis for those who haven’t been paying attention…
Casino Gambling Web put out a press release saying they were sending representatives to lobby on behalf of the American people to legalize Internet gambling in late July. Focus on the Family, an outspoken religious website got very spooked and wrote a retaliation article, which backfired on them because it got the poker community outraged and it united them with the Internet gambling community. The poker forums started letter writing campaigns to Focus on the Family as well as letter writing campaigns to representatives, which may be part of the reason why so many co-sponsors have signed on to Frank’s bill.
Focus on the Family then waitied until the end of July, when Casino Gambling Web reps would be finished with their lobbying, to send their own letter to all congress people and senators begging for the UIGEA to be upheld.
This, ironically is going to backfire again, since there is a press release going out tomorrow announcing that CGW postponed their lobbying trip until September when congressman and senators return from their summer break.
Also ironic is that the letter they wrote actually helps the pro-Internet gambling cause, and that is the basis of the article Larry just wrote…
Internet Gambling Community United by Focus on the Family, Again

In my opinion, should say collectively, our whole staff’s opinion, there is way too much speculation going on about that case and all that can be offered right now is such. If the speculation was more consistently similar we would write something about it, but it’s just too all over the place. Therefore, we believe no new reliable information related to that case will come before the case actually gets presented in court.

There is a rumor that it will be granted, but it is only a rumor, gossip about “he said” and “she said” and so it’s not worth much. I have heard it twice now, and I haven’t heard the opposite. It’s definitely nothing to bet on like CGW says.
August 3, 2007 at 3:48 pm #744495AnonymousInactiveCasino Gambling Web postponed their lobbying trip to Washington D.C. on the advice given to us by aids in the Financial Service Committee. Our reps will be going in September when congressmen and senators return from their summer break.
