i know folder files get less pr distribution but i was wondering if this is good or bad

    ex. free vegas casino games

    so it would be:

    site.com/free-vegas-casino-games/free-vegas-casino-games.html

    or

    site.com/free-vegas-casino-games.html

do they rank better than other options out there?

Personally I would use site.com/free-vegas-casino-games.html but I’ve never heard of folder files getting less PR distribution. Is this correct?

    Should be site.com/free-vegas-casino-games.html .

SE’ are not giving too much relevance to these url/keywords nowadays.
Just look for the first 20 for this/other keyword phrase.
Just a game of content, title, links and aging.

    Hi all,

Some link exchanges and especially social bookmarks limit the number of characters in an URL. This is where the problem will arise.

Folder files have nothing to do with PR distribution. The only things affecting PR distribution are the number of links pointing to a page, the PR of the pages linking to that page, and the number of links each of those pages have on them.

As you can probably see in search results keywords in URL’s are marked, meaning they are indexed and as the first thing SE’s see is the URL I would imagine they do have relevance.
On the other hand there are soooo many other factors in the equation this is probably not a very big deal.

One thing that is a personal “hunch”, I would imagine SE frown upon things like this. site.com/video-poker/video-poker-guide/video-poker.html
I would call this keyword spamming, on the other hand something like:
site.com/blackjack/blackjack-rules.html is probably ok. Just an intuition.

i avoid extensioned files like the plague personally..

site.com/pagename/ does the job nicely (if you have an index.html or whatever in the appropriate directory) . any filename is superflous imo- and linking to directory names means less 301 jiggerypokery if you have to move from asp->php->jsp or whatever…

    Hey,

You are right, we try not to use extensions at all, much more user friendly and tends to be easier on the SE’s.

Spot on from Alex. Site.com/directory/ where the directory is optimized and entitled to reflect the content within AND uses keywords.

Then just use the default document to serve it up or use mod_rewrite in .htaccess to rename.

Good point about the switch from server scripts BUT my friend, you can do that very easily by adding a mime type and telling it to process it with the correct application:

e.g. application/x-httpd-php to process all .php files can also be told to process .asp. abc .xxx .anything files.

    thanks all! :)
Mine had not been indexed so I decided to go ahead and move them out of folders to root directory…. so… keyword-domain.com/keyword-names.html

Shall see what happens… now ill optimize each page further for those keywords…
