Can someone explain alexa to me. My site is only 2.5 months old but is ranked on alexa in the 800,000 bracket. I have seen other sites with worse ranking but higher PR and many more links how is this ranking devised.
It’s better when you have lesser alexa rank. For example, Google has Alexa=1.
It shows your traffic.The main Alexa traffic rank is based on the geometric mean of these two quantities averaged over time (so that the rank of a site reflects both the number of users who visit that site as well as the number of pages on the site viewed by those users). The three-month change is determined by comparing the site’s current rank with its rank from three months ago. For example, on July 1, the three-month change would show the difference between the rank based on traffic during the first quarter of the year and the rank based on traffic during the second quarter.
Alexa rank is determined by the number of visitors to your site that have the Alexa Toolbar installed on their PCs.
It’s not a precise measure of traffic or your standing in the SERPs or the number of players you have or generate.
It’s just another tool people use to try to get a feel for how many “visitors” you have.
It can also be manipulated very easily
Inaccurate tool. Some of my sites have 5 times more traffic than other, but Alexa ranks all of them equally.
