 nice one!
March 30, 2007 at 4:25 pm #732540AnonymousInactivethat is indeed nice, but does this mean they will crack down even more on US based operations?
The U.S. agreed that today’s ruling finds it failed to comply with the two-year old decision.
Still, the U.S. says the report allows it to maintain a ban on Internet gambling to “protect public order and public morals” as long as it doesn’t discriminate against foreign companies, Gretchen Hamel, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Trade Representative’s office in Washington, said in an e-mailed statement. “We are currently reviewing our options,” Hamel said.
March 30, 2007 at 4:32 pm #732541AnonymousInactiveThat’s BS, the carve out for horseracing and the lotteries makes it discriminatory against other countries.
That’s the whole point.
March 30, 2007 at 6:27 pm #732550AnonymousInactiveExcelent article, I wish we had the 41 page report to go along with it. Seems more and more of a push and it just keep growing.

Translation:
We screwed up and haven’t the slightest idea what to do.
March 30, 2007 at 10:38 pm #732564AnonymousInactiveThe only way this works, is if when the US ignores this ruling (and of course they will ignore it), that Antigua is ruled to be able to ignore U.S. digital rights laws as part of their compensatory damages, thus allowing them to sell things like U.S. DVD’s and U.S. software for pennies on the dollar……and this could happen. If it happens, the US government will take notice, due to all the industry pressures and backlash that will result, and something positive may come out of all this.
I’m very glad that this ruling was made, but unfortunately, it’s gonna take an awful lot to undo October 13, 2006. That was a stake in the heart for this industry, and it’s going to take more than a tourniquette to stop the serious blood loss.
Why did they make this announcement on Friday, before a weekend ? It will get lost in the news. They should have released it on Monday. Poor timing.
In any event, go Antigua !!!
