I have received several check from programs that are wrote on a Canadian bank with a US dollar account. My bank charges me $15 per check because they are foreign items. I am wondering if this is the norm for people in the US. Do you have to pay a fee to cash or deposit a Canadian check even if it says US dollar account?

My bank does not do this. I put the checks into an envelope and deposit them at an ATM. So far, I’ve never been charged. And yes, these were checks that were drafted outside the U.S.
I’m not from the US but my bank charges me much more for any check from abroad, regardless of the currency. Then, my bank charges me again when converting the money to my local currency… Damn, i’d be filthy rich if i had a bank i owned:satisfied
