The Association of Players, Casinos and Webmasters would like to advise the online gaming community that upper leadership within the Veterans of Foreign Wars has been in contact with the VFW Webcom Network and APCW to advise that have been reviewing the Charitable Gaming Initiative.
They believe that, at this time, the model raises more questions than they are prepared to answer, and they would like to set aside this issue while additional studies and reports are generated to analyze the topic’s viability. Therefore, the issue of Charitable Gaming for Veterans has been “tabled” so that it can be discussed privately outside of the public eye.
The APCW would like to emphasize that we do not view this as a positive or negative development, as there has been no “cease and desist” order, nor has there been any communications to discontinue the study of the model in relation to funding Veterans Services.
Additionally, if the VFW does not act on this issue, several other Veterans Service Organizations have the option to continue without VWF cooperation. Additional charitable associations are also looking for revenue streams of this caliber.
We would like to thank the industry players and webmasters who have shown such support and interest in this issue, and remind affiliate programs, casinos, and software providers that there inactions are equally noticed.
FROM VFW WEBCOM:
The preliminary report for the “Online Charity Gaming for Veterans” Initiative that was being prepared for membership under the direction of the Departments of Alabama, Missouri, North Carolina and Virginia is all but complete.
It identifies more questions then answers at this time and will recommend that the initiative be tabled.
We would like to thank the APCW and everyone who contributed their input to the report.
We look forward to the review and input process by the membership, which could determine an interest in revisiting this issue in the future.

February 23, 2007 at 7:58 pm #728503vladcizsolMemberGood try anyway and keep after them. Personally I think our best bet is a “tax on purchase” plan with funds going to the state and federal government. If we could make the case of how much this could raise in federal and state funds then we might be able to get a few legislators behind us.
Lets say that the industry as a whole generates $12 billion dollars in the US in deposits each year….
$12,000,000,000.00
6 percent Federal tax on deposits = $720 Million
6 percent State tax on deposits = $720 MillionTotal revenue generated annualy = $1.4 Billion
Set backs
10% Problem Gambling fund = $140 Million
25% to Education = $ 350 MillionRemainder used at governments discretion = $990,000,000

The plan we have is even more generous than that to the government and VFW while still providing a huge payment to software providers. But as we know, just because something makes total sense doesn’t mean those in charge will approve.
It is discouraging that the VFW Leadership has elected to slow down on this, and I won’t lie that I am very discouraged. But this is not a dead issue:
The VFW membership and leadership is still considering this, but they have changed their agenda: They do not want it in the public eye any longer for whatever reason. They want to keep the discussion “in house” until they make the decision public… one way or another.
I’m gonna go have a drink now… :shots:

I’m tempted to say this is exactly the kind of thinking that has gotten the vfw where it is today.
somebody comes up with a serious answer to some very hard questions … and they want to think about it.
I’m sorry, ….. though i understand their not wanting to affiiate with just anybody ….. at the same time enough time has been spent foolishly and still no answers.
freaking stinks!
I gurantee you every veteran facing some kind of need of medical help is for this! But their own damn reps are selling them out because of obvious political pressure. Shame on them!
