Recently the New Mexico Lottery announced that is seeking proposals from parties interested operating vendor services for its online games. “Roadrunner Cash” and “Pick 3” are just two of the products that the state lottery publishes results for on their website.
Times have been a little tough for the offshore online gambling industry. After legislation to further curb online gambling was passed last October, publicly traded companies fled the US market shedding American players and bleeding profits like a stuck pig. Many employees lost their jobs and even some industry ‘lifers’ made the decision to take up positions with companies outside the sector.
When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was written, it contained carve-outs for such things as lotteries and horse racing. Now, those very marketing companies and individuals who helped put SportingBet, 888.com and Party Poker on billboards and in the living rooms and computer monitors of Americans have an opportunity to do the same for the state run institutions that this bill still allows to operate.
Sure, offshore online gambling companies are not bound by the same rules of conduct, nor are accountable to elected boards who decide what is best for the state. But with the exit of some of the major players in the online gambling space, there is a vacuum that will more
